She is 5 weeks old, her litter mate and her mother are fine. She has a moist sounding cough but otherwise is very playful and appears normal, what could this be? I live on a farm and have a lot of other outside cats, but the mom and babies have been inside since the babies were born. Any suggestions? Also how can I get it to go away?

alot of kittens are born with or catch an upperresitory infection (like kennel cough or a "cold")if it's not to far along you can get antibiotics from the vet to fix the little guy right up.If you suspect the kitten has a problem and the others don't you may want tro keep him away from the others. Some signs of infection will be gooey eyes, white or light pink gums (press them and if the color comes back very slowly this is also a sign)weezing, snotty nose, lack of intrest in nursing or food.Good luck this may just be the runt!

She probably has an upper respiratory infection. I just had to deal with this in one of my kittens. The vet will give her antibiotics for a few days. Make sure she takes all the meds. That's the only way it will go away. She's too little to wait long about going to the vet (it can get to the fatal point if left untreated). This is very contagious and everybody could end up with it. ♥

Well, you can only get it to go away when you know what the cause is, and the only way you can discover this is to take the cat to a vet.

It could be a virus, it could be lungworm. Both these are possible even if the mother and kittens haven't been outside.

Please take the cat to a vet, the others might not be showing symptoms but they might well be soon - get the cat to a vet BEFORE this occurs.

Your kitten could be developing upper respiratory problems. Take your kitten to the vet. If the vet doesn't diagnose anything wrong with the kitten, it could just be a large hairball. Kittens don't usually have hairballs, but this could be an exception. Here is a website that may help you. Scroll down the page a little bit and click on the paw next to ILLNESSES-COUGH. It should have more information on what you can do. Please feel free to email me with any questions.

It's probably an upper respiratory infection. Kittens are very prone to them - especially as they start weening from Mama. You should take her to the vet for antibiotics. URIs in small kittens can be deadly if left untreated. The vet may want to put her litter mates to be put on them as well - just in case.
