Yes, mum is being protective - it's how they act instinctively. Don't worry, she still loves you! After a couple of weeks she will allow you to look at, and eventually hold, her darling babies. For now, just respect her wishes and everything will be fine :) Congrats on the new brood!

She's just protecting her babies.

Your act (staring or looking at the kittens) make you look like a predator.

She is just being a good mom...she is protecting the babies and basically telling yu to leave them alone.

She is being protective of her young.
She probably thinks you are going to take them away.

I would just leave them alone and do not disturb them.
Wait till they are a few days older.

she is protecting her young and even if she loves you very much and trusts you she can still be over protected. she should be letting you near them at 2 weeks so if she is still not then i would talk to a vet.
