Cats - January 2007

She is four years old, a beautiful, sweet Abyssinian/Somali mix. When I took her to the vet for this a year ago, he said there was no fungus or any other type of physical reason. She's losing hair on both her sides. Her hair is dull, yet, she is playful and eats well. She seems VERY jealous of our other cat, Naomi, in which they are only about 18 months apart. Naomi was a kitten when we introduced her to Molly. Molly intimidates Naomi all the time. She has, just in the last 3 months, defecated oustide of the litter box, maybe 3 or 4 times. They shared same box all their lives. No litter change, ever. When I play with Naomi, the poor thing is constantly & nervously looking to see if Molly is in the background, giving her the "evil eye." And, usually, that's exactly what Molly is doing! I've been awakened from a sound sleep by growling, hissing, & meowing. They are "indoor" cats 95% of the time...at times I let them out on a collar and a 4 ft. leash, 1/2 hr. daily at most.

I'm very interested in knowing what it means when they want to press their head into yours; What it means when they rub their saliva glands on your hand; and other physical means of communication - what's positive and/or negative.

Why does my cat sneeze so much? She doesn't just sneeze once either. It's like 2 or 3 or 4 sneezes one right after another.

I was eating Honey Buches of Oats (dry) and I dropped a piece (non sweetened) and my cat got to it before I could clean it up. She liked it (how odd), but I was wondering if eating a corn flake would do anything to my cat? Or no? I was juuust wondering.

I want to know 2nd hand what it's like to have one of these critters as a "cute, cuddly, adorable" pet(?)
Was considering it seriously at one point. Many breeders claim they "get along great w/other animals/pets"....b4 I'd adopt/purchase one of these exotic felines, I'd like to know ur personal experience--1st hand experience

She has spots all over her back and stomach, and stripes all over her legs and neck. I can't find any breed to meet her description. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I recently rescued an 8-10 month old ferrell cat. I took her to the vet and had her health checked, and now I have her in my spare bathroom. She lets me pet her, but she still hisses at first, and is very afraid of me. She also will not eat. I have tried to give her tuna, but she won't even eat that. Any advice?

Her breathing is very labored. I listen to her and it sounds like wheezing. If she were human I'd say she was asthmatic.

I had a cat before this one who lived for 16 years, so I'm quite familiar with cats. Her breathing just doesn't sound normal.

She has a very thick coat and does a LOT of shedding. I want to take her to be groomed but she's very cranky/uncooperative and I doubt any groomer would be willing to work with her. If it is indeed asthma then I wonder whether all her hair is a factor.

But, I'm not sure about taking her to a vet because vets will always tell you there's about 10 different things that are wrong with your cat which can only be cured by thousands of dollars worth of antibiotics, surgery, etc.,

I moved out of my mom's house 9 months ago so I haven't seen our cat Tigger for awhile and when I did it was for a few minutes and then I would leave. Well I just got a new place and decided that I would like to have the cat since my stepdad made it live in the basement which was not for living conditions. I've known my cat since it was a kitten and now it's 9 years old. Well today my mom and sister dropped him off, and since they've left, he's just hiding under my bed. He came out for a bit to check things out but he doesn't seem to recognize me. He'll rub on my leg but won't let me pick him up, but the cat lets my bf pick him up and they've just met. I feel bad and have the feeling Tigger thinks he was sent to strangers. How do I get him to recognize me again, or does he recognize me and he's just getting to know my bf now? Will he eventually get used to the new place?

my cat has a "ferret" toy that she loves. It's basically a tube wrapped in burlap with faux fur on both ends with something that rattles inside. She's had it forever but it's starting to show it's age.

I can't find anything like it anywhere, but I'm certain I can make her one easily enough.

My question is, is glue from a low temp glue gun used for crafts safe for cats once it's dried? If not, what can I use? What kind of glue do toy companies use?

I have had my black cat, Sabrina, for nearly 7 years now, and she has been a blessing. My birthday is coming up, and I am hoping to buy another kitten. The thing is, I'm not sure if Sabrina can cope with another animal. I tried having a puppy, and the cat was furious with me! (The puppy didnt last long at my house; I had to put her up for adoption.) Sabrina is very sweet with smaller animals than herself, but should I take the risk of getting another kitten? Please help!

does any body know anything about malaysian cats? i have 1 & dont know much about the breed. he is white with blue eyes & really fluffy! he gets bad knots in his hair close to the skin. i have tried cutting most of them out then giving him a bath. infact i did that tonight! it seemed to make them worse & most of the knots are on his stomach & chest. he really doesnt like his stomach or chest touched so it is hard to get them out + them being close to the skin makes it worse! any ideas on how to get them out?

My cat Baby just had a litter of 6 kittens. One of them has one eyes open and has since yesturday. Is this normal? How long does it take for a kitten to open it's eyes? How long does it take for them to walk around? How long til I can tell the sex of the kittens... and how can I tell? They are the cutest things and I just want whats best for them. Is it normal for the baby to one eye open so soon? Thank you so much if you can answer any or all of my questions (:

I noticed last night that my kitten was squinting one of his eyes. It definitely looked like it was bothering him. Then this morning I noticed that my other kitten's eye was doing the same thing, only hers was watering...Is this worth taking them to the vet?
