does any body know anything about malaysian cats? i have 1 & dont know much about the breed. he is white with blue eyes & really fluffy! he gets bad knots in his hair close to the skin. i have tried cutting most of them out then giving him a bath. infact i did that tonight! it seemed to make them worse & most of the knots are on his stomach & chest. he really doesnt like his stomach or chest touched so it is hard to get them out + them being close to the skin makes it worse! any ideas on how to get them out?

You may have to get him shaved at a groomers, then make it a point of brushing him almost daily to avoid the knots from forming again.
Once the knots are down to the skin they are very hard to get out & become painful for the cat.

Just know that if they ask you if you want a "lion cut" it means that they leave all the hair on the cats head so when you get him/her back they look a tad ridiculous for awhile.

I have a long hair cat that is just like that. I have to take her to the groomer every couple of months and have her hair cut really close like a lion.
I've tried everything under the sun other than that because she gets so stressed out at the groomer but nothing I have tried works for very long.
Hope someone else can be of more help.
Peace

You might want to take the cat to a professional groomer. I would suggest shaving the matted areas, and it the areas are the chest and stomach it might be safer to get a pro to do it to avoid injury to the cat. Malaysian cats need very frequent grooming to avoid the "mats". They also need a very high protein diet with omega 3/6 will also help. When your cat has regular grooming, a healthy coat and skin, it will make all the difference in the world. Good luck :)

You need to take him to a groomer and get a "Line Cut". This is where the groomer shaves off the parts that are most prone to getting matted. These cats need to be brushed every day. The mats, if left alone will eventually start to hurt and cause him pain.
Please take him to a groomer.
