I work in a Vet's office and I have many critters of my own.

Science diet is a good food. We feed it to our two cats and two dogs. Typically you don't want to feed your animal food you can get at a grocery store... You may save money with Purina in the beginning... but actually to get the same amount of calories, protein, carbs etc your cat will need to eat more of the cheap stuff than good stuff like Science Diet. Also better food can reduce the amount of poop because more of the food is "used"

One of the first things we ask pet owners who are having problems housebreaking their pets is what food they feed..

Now this is all personal choice...it is just an opinion. some vets recommend other kinds, some people will say Purina is the best... in the end all that matters is that your cat is loved, taken care of and safe. Food is food. Not everone has the money to spend on expensive food...

OF a separate issue people have accused Iams of animal cruelty as listed here on this web site.

This is something you may want to look into when purchasing animal products. But again.. this is all just opinion.

Hope this helps a little.

Science diet was the first "premium" brand. It has it's name recognition through veterinarians by giving it at low cost to vet students, thereby allowing them to have their pets while they go through school. I am not convinced that it is the best brand. I think that Wysong is good. Most foods are better these days than they were about 20 years ago when they used to have a bad mix of minerals which caused stones to form in the cat's bladder.

I have not read the label lately, but I think that Science Diet uses the same ingredients as other commercial cat foods, like corn and by-products.

I feed my four cats Nutro Natural Choice dry and canned food. It's all natural with no chicken or meat by-products, ground corn or any artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. It's a higher protein, lower carb food that my cats really love. It's easy to digest for kitties that have sensitive stomachs like my cat Buddy. It's also rich in Omega 3&6 fatty acids along with other key nutrients so your cat will have healthy skin and a beautiful coat with less shedding. Nutro guarantees you will see improvement in skin and coat or your money back. It's made in Nutro's own factories here in the US and Nutro's factories are safety certified by American Feed Industry Association's (AFIA). I'm a pet nutrition specialist with Nutro and have been feeding it for over 25 years to all my furry kids and it's always worked great. I've included a link so you can learn more about it and read some reviews.

no. well, yes, in a sence. i will NOT feed my dog science diet because of all of the recent alligations about them. Iams are going through the same thing as is eukanuba. they lab test on poor innocent animals and do gastly things to them for testing. the best dog and cat food on the planet is BARF food. they are frozen patty's which you thaw and feed your pet. they have a website (www.barf.com.au)

I absolutely swear by this food. it makes my dogs urine non acidic and poo hard and non smelly. i would reccomend it to everyone who owns a cat or dog!!

Hope i helped!

Many cat foods, even supposedly the "healthy" ones are made primarily with animal by-products. Nasty stuff that is then sprayed with chemicals to change the nasty smell (otherwise animals would not eat it).

You would puke if you knew what stuff is included in most cat/dog foods- believe it or not we are talking rotting dead animal parts and even fecal matter.

Do some research- make sure the first few ingredients are actually meat or veggies, not by- products and fillers.

I'm sure it's healthy- I don't think there is a 'bad' cat food...check with your vet to see what would be best for your particular cat. Does it need kitten, adult, hairball control, overweight, skinny...there are so many different types, so your vet (even if you just call) would know the best.

I asked the vet I go to and they say its very healthy. It has a great balance of the things your cat/kitty needs. My cat however HATES sicence diet.
