Cats - December 2006

my cat is sick? His eyes are watery, his nose is runny, and he seems to be breathing harder than normal. He won't eat, and he's losing weight. Is there anything i can do for him? I can't take him to the vet until I get up the money, but I'm worried it won't be soon enough.

I've owned a dog for the past four years, and have worked with cats before, I lived with a friend who had one and got along great with it. I've been looking through adoption sites and have found a few dog friendly kittens who I'm thinking of adopting.
What I'm asking is if there's anything that I should consider? I know the basics, vet bills and introducing the dog to the cat, should I consider anything else? Any insight will be appreciated! Thank you!

I have indoor cat's. I find it somewhat annoying when my family and I are asleep and they wake us up with thier loud meowing. I try hushing at them but that doesn't seem to work What can I do?

Sometimes I hear 1 of my 2 cats meowing really loud like he is mad! and by the time I go to them they r both just standing there staring at each other slowly waving their tales like getting ready to attack. Are they just playing or is 1 being mean or too rough to the other? (1 is a meaner cat) 2nd. how long is the recovery period for them when I get them fixed soon?

Hi, I recently adopted a new cat. He's a 5 year old 7lb ragdoll and came to me with URI (aka Kitten cold). I had him checked out by my vet and other then tapeworms (taken care of) and the URI he seems to be fine. However, he does not drink or eat at all. He seems reasonable active (for a ragdoll) but still a bit scared. Question I have: How long can the cat be fine w/o drinking? My vet gave him a fluid IV on Monday and I have not seen him drink since then. I checked his hydration with the 'pull skin' test and it does return back to normal, but over several seconds. I am considering forcing him to drink, but he's already traumatized enough from the antibiotics he gets twice a day. At what point should he go back to my vet and at what point should I force him to drink? I tried to feed him dry food, wet food and tuna, but he sniffs it and goes away.

You can see my cat in the pic. She is not a pedigree but she is black long-haired and her tail is magnificent - so long-haired and fluffy. People who see her keep thinking she's persian, although her face is not persian at all. She has a lovely 'moggie' face - not pug. I have no idea if she is part persian or not but so many people think she is - does anyone know by looking at her pic?

I have a 14 month old baby boy who just can't leave our Bengal cat alone. The only thing that i can think of doing is putting the cat outside, but I don't want to keep doing that to the poor cat. And I don't want to get rid of it either.

My cat got eaten by a coyote.

He used to bother me all the time by stepping on the computer keys to try and lick me.

He would lay down next to the keyboard and on purpose rest his paw on my arm.

He had the coolest personality.

Do you think I should get another one right away or what.?

Sorry this is gross, but my cat just puked up his food. It just looked like normal partly digested cat food- not hairballs. He seems healthy as far as I can tell, just overweight, and lately he's been scarfing down his food pretty fast. Also for the last couple of days I gave him a bit of canned salmon with his dry food. Usually he gets tuna so I don't know if salmon upset his tummy. Do you think I should call the vet in case it's something more serious, or wait and see if he keeps barfing?

I've been reading the answers and I think I need to have Fonzie neutered. I don't know much about cats. I found him at a store and the girl said he was a stray that hangs out there and I could have him. He's really cool. Big and black and fluffy. I hope I'm not bothering anybody with all my questions but what are things Fonzie needs? I got him flea meds from a vet. I think he's happy here, I've had him a couple of months. We mostly just hang out. He doesn't like the phone ringing. He runs when it rings. I got him a rawhide chew toy to play with.

I have two cats. They are two and three year old males. They are VERY affectionate and follow me around everywhere. I am planning on adopting a female shih tzu puppy at the end of the month. I know it will take time for them to get used to the puppy, but will their affection for me continue? I don't want them to live in fear of the puppy. Can they co-exist and share my love? Will they continue to sit on my lap even when the puppy enters the room?

I just had to unexpectedly have my cat put down for feline leukemia (his health utterly deteriorated in just two days - the fault of the previous owner, my mother, who failed to have him vaccinated) and feel like a stupid miserable wretch. I'd appreciate suggestions on how to get my mind off it. I hope to get another cat soon, but feel like I must leave my apartment empty for a time in homage to my lost one.
