I've heard of a cat that peed in the toilet and wasn't trained. Perhaps you are viewed as the alpha cat and the cat copied your behaviour. Cool.

First of all, probably half the cat lovers in these threads are jealous, including myself! Do you realize how much time and effort we could all save, including the unnecessary duty of lugging around 10 lb bags of liter if our all of our cats decided that using the toilet was a better means of defecation? LIL! All you have to do is flush the toilet and it is gone! Some cats, though it is rare, also know how to flush after wards but to my knowledge, there are only a few cases of this on file/documentation. So, I say all that to say that you and your sister are LUCKY! Is it normal? eh, the jury is still out on that one but it is not abnormal though. She is doing it because 1.) She knows that that is how you all do it and she feels on the same playing field with you. 2.) She prefers it. It is easier and cleaner. Some cats do not see themselves as cats, they think they are people or, they see their human family members as cats, that just happen to be larger and have less hair. Therefore, they will try to mimic how you do things. For some cats, they feel it is a no-brainer, as if to use the bathroom is the way it should be done. All I can say is congrats to you!

Could have seen it being done often enough and since you got when he was a kitten copied the behaviour for all baby and very young animals will copy the mama or papa and in your kittens case -human family- its how they learn to be a cat-by copying other cats.Thats about the only way it could have learned since animals lack reasoning like seeing the toilet, curious s to what is is,investigates and figures out then by seeing someone use that toilet that its to go to the bathroom in.

That is so cool and so cute. I have seen cats do that on television but never seen one in real life. Maybe you can teach him to flush! Wouldn't that be something!

WOW. Lol. Must be a smart cat. Maybe he's been hiding in the bathtub and watching you guys pee. Or maybe someone else cleverly trained him...

:) congrats!!!
Did you get him as an adult? It very well may be that his previous owner taught him how. it is trainable.
Otherwise, I DID meet someone once whos cat taught itself how - but that's very rare.
