Oh, that's a tough one. I always ended up with a cat in the tree when they were younger no matter what I tried, so I tied the tree to the wall with eye hooks and picture-hanging wire so it wouldn't topple. The only way to prevent 'cat in tree syndrome' is to put baby gates or pet gates in a circle around the tree or keep the kitten out of that room until the season is over and the tree's gone. I just didn't have the heart, seeing how much my cats loved sitting in the tree. It's like the Cheshire Cat peering out at you from between the branches.

You can't. That's like the ultimate present for a cat. It's heaven for them. I mean look at it from their point of view...YOU BROUGHT A TREE INSIDE JUST FOR HER!!!
We once sprayed a cat with water from a spray bottle for doing this all we accomplished was shorting out all of our lights so I don't recommend this.
You could try to wrap the trunk in aluminum foil. Cats hate the way it feels and sounds but she may be able to jump up past it.
That's how we kept them off the counters though.
Good luck!

get a squirt bottle with an adjustable nozzle. cat's hate water and after one or two times going under the tree and getting sprayed with water will deter your kitten from further ventures. It's not painful or hurtful for the cat but it get's the message across quickly.

That's so cute. Seriously though I heard if you put Vick's vapor rub around the trunk they won't go near it. They can't stand the smell. Hope it works. I've never tried it but I heard about it. Good luck.

Put empty soda cans around the tree. The noise will scare it off. :)
