Cats - October 2006

I have a lovely 10 year old moggie. I live in a ground floor apartment so she just jumps over the balcony and explores the gardens all day and at night she will sit on my balcony and meow so loud! I feed her well and she is allowed inside whenever she wants.
There is a man that lives upstairs who hates my cat and screams "shutup!" when she meows.

What can I do to stop her meowing because it really is annoying!

My male cat has recently started urinating in the house. He has been neuterd. I clean out his litter box and put fresh litter in it at least twice a day so I know that is not the problem. He is an inside outside cat. He wants to go out at night and come in during the day. Sometimes though he will be in all day and night. I guess it depends on his mood. I have raised him since he was just a few hours old when one of my dogs found him in the woods and brought him home to me.

My cat won't leave me alone. It doesn't bother me, I think it is sooo cute. He's part himalayan half persian. He's white and pale gray, he almost looks blue. He looks like an alien. These cats are known for being TOO independent. And he is, except lately when I'm trying to study, he gets up on my desk and lays down right on top of my books and papers as close to my face as he can get.If I try to move him gingerly off them, he grabs my hand with his paws and bites it.Then he takes my whole arm and grabs it by his front and back feet, holds it frimly with his paws, and kicks and bites me!Sometimes he slaps me. Not hard, just kind of cuffs me and stares me down with his big blue eyes.If I do happen to get him off my papers, he gets right back up on them and he defies that I get him off again. He won't let me study. If I pet him and talk softly to him, he purrs. I'm not trying to stop him, because I think it's adorable. But I would just like other people's opinions on why he does it? Thanks

We just got two new baby kittens today.. 7 weeks old.. they are brother and sister... would it be ok to put them in the kitty cage at night for when we go to bed to ensure that they don't get into anything?

I've researched the internet and can not find much information regarding this. Other than the jaw spasms which happen quite frequently he seems fine.

For some dumb reason Yahoo Answers won't let me comment on my question to elaborate... so here is my elaboration.

Ok here's some information I left out. Princess used to live at my Aunt-In-Law's farm, that's where we took her back to. We didn't drop her at some random field. My Grandma-in-Law knew I wanted a cat and was down visiting and picked her up for me as a suprise. My inlaws don't take their animals to the vet so they didn't know I was trying to save up money for shots and neutering/spaying and all that stuff you take cats to the vet for, before actually bringing one into my house. That is why I did not have the money to take her to the vet, and we had thought about having my Uncle-in-Law put her down just in case she was in pain/terminally ill, but I couldn't stand the thought of killing a possibly pregnant cat, so I just returned her to her former owner. Trust me, if I had enough money, I would have taken both Princess and Tidus to the vet day one.

i have a 6 year old spayed female cat, who is very posessive of me. she wants to be on me constantly. well, we've got a 10 week old kitten(totally unrelated to her) that wants to play on me and w/her while she's sitting on me.She gets very rude w/him, and swats at him, using her claws. how can i keep from being in the middle of their territorial bouts? the kitten is *really* hyper.

I recently took in a stray cat. He is very friendly and loves to be petted, but he gets very angry if I try to pick him up or push him towards the litter box. Everything I see about training cats says to introduce them to the box and they will figure it out on their own, but I can't put him in it because I can't pick him up. How can I go about teaching him to pee in the box when I can't get him started?

We recently got rid of Princess, a female cat who acted like a pregnant cat, although we recently found out from her previous owners that she's acted like this for as long as she had been dropped off there for a year, so she's not preggo.

Even after a month inside, she becomes filthy for no reason! We've given her three shampoos and red dirt and black specks come out everytime. You can't pick her upwithout getting filthy, even two days after shampooing her. She sneezes a ton, wheezes, and coughs a lot. Today she had diahreah as well. That's when I decided to take her back to her former owner's farm.

A coworker suggested that her swollen stomach could be cancer since she's not pregnant. That worries me because we had our boy cat Tidus around her for like a month. He got the sniffles for the first week he was around her but he acts like a normal cat and his sinuses have cleared up and he acts healthy.

If Princess did have cancer, do I need to worry about Tidus catching it?

I have scabs all over my body, the hair on my body is falling out, my ears are irritated, my gums are pale, I have no appetite, all I do is sleep, my eyes are crusty and my nose is running.
Instead of getting advice on Yahoo Answers, why doesn't my owner take me to a vet who is the only one that can help me?
How do I let my owner know I need their help now?
Help me....ooooow now!

We need to find out what our cat has, but the issue is, just a vet visit here takes a month to book, then theres a $60 fee, even if there's nothing seriously wrong, so hopefully you guys could give some help.

Our cat is about 2-3 years old, a tabby mix and inbred, (Was a cat from our backyard that we took in), she was fine until now, which si when these symptons have started.

Scabby Areas on her skin.
MAJOR loss of hair, her entire underbelly is bald, and its starting on her back and head now.
Loss of apetite, she'll eat, but only once per day, and only if we pet her while she's eating.
She sleeps 90% of the day now, and will only sleep on somewhere that is warm (she likes on top of the cable box...)
Meows a lot when someone comes near.

Is this possibly just due to old age by being inbred, or is this a serious health issue, and if so, any ideas on what it is? (If it is, and we know what, we may find a way to go to the vet, as we lost a lot of income when our dad died.)

my cat has all these weird scabs all over her. I think that she must be allergic to something. She is an indoor/outdoor cat. I tried to keep he inside to see if it would clear up, but she refused to use the litter box and pissed all over everything, so I gave up on that quick. what do you think it is, and what should I do about it.

We just tonight adopted a new cat and are having a little trouble naming him. I have a dog and a cat already with "B" names(Brutus & Bailey). We would maybe like to have another "B" name, but not nessisarily. He is a boy cat and all white. The only thing we have come up with so far is "BOO". We thought that was kinda good becase it is a "B", he is white like a ghost and it is near halloween. Any other suggestions would be greatly apprechiated. Thanks!

We rescued a dog, a small Bagel (a Beagle/Basset Hound mix) and brought her home. My cats are reacting very meanly. Normally, they are good with other cats, but have never been around a dog. They walk around the house with puffed up tails and attack the poor thing if she tries to walk. Also, my son was sitting my the dog, and the younger of the two cats scratched my son on his face. They have NEVER scratched or anything like this before!

I know it is just the first day... but is this likely to get better? How long should it take?

I have a one year old "Ragdoll" female that is fairly quiet most of the time. As soon as I lie down to sleep, she lays down with me and starts meowing like crazy. I've tried ignoring her, squirting her with water & petting her (not all at the same time) in an attempt to get some quiet. Nothing has worked. As soon as I'm up, she stops. Her vet says she is very healthy and she gets plenty of attention so I am stumped. Any ideas that would help?
