My cat won't leave me alone. It doesn't bother me, I think it is sooo cute. He's part himalayan half persian. He's white and pale gray, he almost looks blue. He looks like an alien. These cats are known for being TOO independent. And he is, except lately when I'm trying to study, he gets up on my desk and lays down right on top of my books and papers as close to my face as he can get.If I try to move him gingerly off them, he grabs my hand with his paws and bites it.Then he takes my whole arm and grabs it by his front and back feet, holds it frimly with his paws, and kicks and bites me!Sometimes he slaps me. Not hard, just kind of cuffs me and stares me down with his big blue eyes.If I do happen to get him off my papers, he gets right back up on them and he defies that I get him off again. He won't let me study. If I pet him and talk softly to him, he purrs. I'm not trying to stop him, because I think it's adorable. But I would just like other people's opinions on why he does it? Thanks

He's a bit co-dependant. People who think cats are independant are usually those who don't have cats. Mine have always been in your face type cats. My 1/2 siamese used to sleep on my head and run off with any shiny object he could fit in his mouth. Cats love to lie right in the way, especially on top of papers. He bothers you because you are his favourite person.

people don't give cats enough credit for being smart....they are highly intelligent creatures, easily have the IQ of a 4 yr old human child.

my cat does the same thing when I sit down to program and design on the computer for long periods of time. she realizes I am not paying attention to her at all cause I am so focused on the work at hand.

She will get in my lap, try to move my mouse away from me, plop down right on my keyboard, she's even gone as far as chewing through some wires to stop me from using the computer or headphones.

yours is just wanting your attention. that 15 mins of attention that cats want per day. plus they are smart enough to realize when we are working too long and they will interrupt us for a break. take the 10 mins and just enjoy the cats presence and attention, after wards she should let you get back to work.

only my one cat does this....my other cat must curl up tight next to me when I watch TV...and only when I watch TV, all other times she is a very distant cat and won't even be held. like a child....each has their own unique personality and traits.

Cats express intense interest in an object by staring at it fixedly. Now, when you are reading a book or working (playing?) at your computer, it looks to the cat like you are very interested in that particular object that you are looking at. Heaven forbid, but you might actually replace kitty with that mysterious object. So the cat goes and sabotages any developing relationship you might be having with said mysterious object by BEING IN YOUR FACE!!! Isn't it funny?

Orientals are high maintenance TLC cats. But they can be trained to cuddle only when you want to.
Mind you having said that, I have a burmese who insists on sitting on my chest when I am trying to watch tv in bed. I shove him off, he looks at me and then jumps back up and we are nose to nose! I roll over onto my side so he jumps on my shoulder/arm and snoozes there while I watch tv. He sometimes lays on his back, his head on my arm, so that i can rub his tummy.
I have had him home for less than two weeks. I adopted him from the shelter I volunteer at. I am still trying to figure out who is training who ..... rofl

Is your cat he neutered by the way?

Try to set a separate & regular time of the day just to exclusively play with your cat. If he feels he has enough of your TLC he won't try to get your attention and play with you when you're studying.

Cats can be trained, you know. So if you want your cat to stop doing this then you have to figure out a way to train him about that. Cats are not stupid. They catch on very fast.

Cats feel the world revolves around them and they get pretty peeved if they're not shown the attention they believe they're entitled to. Plus, he probably loves you!

the kitty does it b/c he loves you and wants your undivided attention, my cats do that too, especially my 2 persians, if i stop petting them they tap my hand, if that doesnt work they keep it up until i pet them, then if there is still no respnose from me, they pat my face, or play wrestle my arm as yours does, ....our babies are just spoiled rotten and used to constant attention, so they are vocal about wanting pet and loved on.
