It's marking it's territory. You can try sprinkling pepper on areas that your cat often marks. Cats usually sniff before they mark their territory and the pepper is supposed to be a deterrent.

Even if you clean up the spot where your cat has urinated it still leaves the sent deep down where your cat can smell it as they smell much better then we do. Even carpet cleaners do not get far enough down do neutralize this odor unless you get special shampoo and at that it still might not. When a cat goes potty one time it remembers that spot as a potty place and will continue to do so unless you can figure out a way to discipline it when it has done so...... also make sure that the liter box is clean, some cats do not like it if there is other potty in the box. This is actually a self defense mechanism. Other animals smell where they have gone potty so the smell of their own waste signals danger. Cats also will go potty where it is most absorbent, again this is to try to get the waste to go away. Check to make sure that the litter in the litter box is deep enough so that she or he can bury it properly. If you are sure that none of these things are a factor that maybe you should think about taking your cat to the vet to make sure it doesn't have any kidney or urinary-tract problems.
Good luck!

All cat are territorial and maybe you cat is just letting herself know that this is my place and my stuff sort of thing. Some cats are more territorial than others. Do you have another cat or pet? It could also be that another cat was once there and went to the bathroom in those same areas so you cat is not covering the other cats scent with its own. Who knows, but if you want to see all the places where your cat went and you are not sure, a vet told me to purchase a black light bulb and it will light up all the areas in the house where cat went at. Also get some neutralizing shampoo to remove the scent.

She could be having kidney problems or bladder problems as much as a urinary tract infection also. It could be psychological or marking territory. You don't give much details to be able to answer. Have you been to your vet and had it checked out? Do you clean the litter often enough? Some cats are picky and once in a while is not nearly enough. The litter box should be cleaned at least once a day. Your cat might also have issues with the litter itself. Did you change brands? If the problem started when you changed the brand of litter the cat is not liking it. Change it back to the previous brand.
Good luck figuring out kitty!

Your cat may be smelling urine that you can't. It could be urine stains from the previous tenants. Use a black light to determine where the urine stains are. Once you have found them, get Natures Miracle to really clean the spots, follow the directions.
Try changing her litter, some cats don't like scented litter, or prefer non-clumping clay.
So nothing has changed recently, like a new boyfriend, new furniture, new baby, new anything can upset the balance in a cat's world, some cats are very sensitive.
Use several litterboxes in different locations. And lastly if she isn't spayed yet, she could be spraying, yes, females do spray!
If you can't stop this behavior, she should be seen by a vet to rule out any health issues. And lastly, if she checks out healthy and you decide you can't keep her because of this behavior, don't give her to someone else for your problem to become their problem. They may just throw her out the front door to fend for herself. The most humane thing to do is to have her euthanized by your local shelter or vet.
Whatever the outcome, good luck to you and your cat.

Sometimes cats do this to mark their territory; is she new to the apartment or did you recently get a new animal or new furniture or something that may be unfamiliar to her? They may also do this if they are offended by their litter pan; is hers a covered one? You can imagine the smell inside the litter pan with the lid on can get quite strong and cats have sensitive noses. As far as getting the urine smell out of things, there is a product called "Out!" that they sell at KMart that works wonders. My cat is skiddish and pees when I take her in the car, so I keep it on hand. It really will get the smell out. Good luck with your cat!

My cat pees on the bathmat when his litter isn't too his liking. Try putting another litter box out or clean the one you have everyday. They also sell products to deter cats from peeing in areas of your home at Petco/Petsmart. Also get her checked for a bladder infection. Also clean the area she pees in throughly otherwise she will go back to that spot. Don't punish her...she's probably just not feeling good or something.

a lot of the time cats will pee outside their litter box because they are sick. but there can be other reasons. if you recently changed the litter and she doesn't like it, or if the litter box isn't cleaned regularly, she may use the restroom outside. One extreme reason is if she isn't fixed, and in some cases even if she is fixed she is marking her territory. the best advice i have for you is to go see a vet to make sure everything is working properly.

Is the cat a male? Male cats often mark their territory, but that can be easily fixed by getting them neutered. Certain medical conditions such as FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease)could also be the cause. You should probably take your cat to the vet to eliminate any medical causes.

It is probably spraying. Se probably smells another animals scent and thats how they mark their territory and cover up other scents. You will need to get her fixed and have your carpets cleaned so she wont smell her spray, cause if she does then there is a possibility that she will keep spraying. You might want to have the vet check for any urine problems also.
