Birds - November 2006

I am a wildlife rehabber and this bird was brought in with a broken foot. Our vet put a splint on the leg and he is fully recovered, but during treatment we found him to be a very calm and tame bird, nothing like a wild bird would act, and we do have wild Quakers here on the Texas coast. We have decided to keep him as he is so tame, he has even learned to say Hello and Pretty, Pretty from our other birds.
My concern is he has started hanging from the top of his cage most of the day and he even sleeps upside down. When we let him out, he hangs upside down on his play perches, my curtains, everywhere. He's not just leaning over, he is upside down, as in feet up, head down. Is this normal? Does he need something I'm not providing? He eats a variety of foods and we rotate toys as well as giving him play time everyday.
Has anyone ever had this problem with a Quaker before? Suggestions?

My pet Pterodactyl, Dirk has escaped from his aviary. He is currently soaring the sky above my house, but won't return to his aviary. He is currently depopulating the street of cats and dogs. And the neighbours are livid about his poo and projectile vomiting attacks! I don't want to have to shoot him.....can anyone help??

I have two parakeets and I try to feed them fruits and vegetables and other things in little dishes and the most they've ever done with it is flip the dish. I want to know how I should introduce them to the foods and get them to enjoy them.

I am looking to get 2 parakeets.

What are advantages and disadvantages of owning a parakeet?
I've always been fascinated with them and find them to be very cool and unique pets. I know they poop, but I don't mind that. I'll always clean it up. I guess that's a price I'm willing to pay to own such a graceful pet.

I heard they can talk, is this true? What may I do to strengthen their usage of words and vocabulary?

Any cleaning, caring, keeping, tips are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking your time to read my question.

Malcom has been my pet living in a medium sized cage for the past two years, i am trying to train him to attack me for a show i intend to put on for my firends when we are drunk, simply for our amusement. Can you please advise on the best ways to antagonise Malcom and make him angry, without of course, being too cruel?

I saw a bird today at the lake, it is dark and has a beak that is orangish near its face. It dives for minnows and it swims under water. There were some of them on branches coming out of the water enjoying the sun, Not sure whether or not it had webbed feet or not. I didnt see any that were dry so I dont know about the colors but I think it is some kind of Heron but it was the size of a regular duck. I live in Kansas if that helps. Anyone know what it might be?
