Today is just her 3rd day home from the vets, she is taking 6 tablets of Florinef 0.1mg daily and also 1 tablet of Prednisolone 5mg daily. Today she has been drinking a pint of water every 3 to 4 hours. She used to drink upto 1 pint of water a day. This is a huge increase.

I just moved into my new flat, but I have to go up state for a 3 day busniess trip. I cannot afford to keep her in a boarding house so the only option is to keep her in her cage for 3 days straight. Now yes the cage is very small for the dog, (it will have only 7 inch's extra moving space, but I could leave a big pile of food in her cage and lots of water. What do you think?

I have it in a 2 gallon (as yet unheated - stupid f-ing LFS had the order delayed for an extra week) with 3 mountain minnows and they're fine.

I might want to put a betta in my community tank ( 28L, 3 cories, 7 neon tetras ). My question is, how harmful would it be to my current betta to move it into that tank and then later back to the two gallons? How long should I leave it there? A week?

By the time it goes back in it will have a heater.

We went to the pet store last night with a small army of five girls (field trip during daughters slumber party). We had promised her a small pet for her birthday. Her first choice was a turtle but they didn't have any. We looked around and decided on a parakeet. They sent an employee over and she began trying to talk us out of the pet. She told us every possible negative thing about owning a bird. This went on until the point of being ridiculous and me getting slightly agitated. She offered no tips on care and actually seemed very upset that we were buying the pet at all! I had told her that we have a dog and two cats and seemed convinced that we wouldn't be capable of keeping the bird alive. I kept telling her that we would try it for a week and if we found that it was too much we would return the bird. She was downright upset in the end and was very rude. She refused to answer questions, quickly caught the bird (then proceeded to drop the box!) and took it to the front of the store.

There are 2 cats that belong to my neighbor & they do not feed them. They believe that cats are natural born hunters & should not depend on humans for food. Therefore the cats depend on ripping up my trash bags to find their food. I will not put out food for these cats because they are very destructive - including shredding the screens in my windows. I complained to the neighbors but once there was damage they no longer claim the cats. We do not have a shelter to take the cats to, I can not kill the things, and can not complain to the local sheriff because his solution for any animal problem is to shoot the thing. The only type of humane society we have is for dogs only. I hate the thought of catching the cats and then carrying them off somewhere else because they will just cause damage to someone else's property. Any suggestions?

People on YA Dogs ask these questions all the time ... What is the best dog food? What are the best training methods? Where can I find the best vet? What are the best dog supplies? (Etc etc etc)
Everybody wants the best for their dog. However (in my experiences), many of these folks have very poor quality dogs! Many of these dogs have temperament issues, health issues and are very bad examples of their breeds. Regardless of where a person gets a dog (shelter, breeder, rescue, et al), what advice would you offer a person who wants to obtain a dog of exceptional quality? What are some steps a person can take to avoid bringing home a poorly bred dog?

It's the 2kg Turkey and Rice puppy one, just got it yesterday and my puppy LOVES it. It's tiny 1cm big flat heart shaped peices, aww! The fact it's only 30% meat worries me though.
The ingredients are:
min 28% turkey
min 28% rice
min 18% oats

My puppy started unproductive dry heaving out of no where last night. it went on for about 20 minutes, then he was fine. An hour later he started again and just couldn't stop.

I rushed him to the ER Vet who said he had kennel cough based on the fact that 2 weeks before the first snow he played at the puppy park, then last week just graduated from intermediate dog training classes.

They didn't take x-rays of his lungs... which surprised me, but the vet was positive non-the-less. based on pushing on his tracheal and listening to his lungs.

Does kennel cough sound right? or should I take him into my vet on monday?

I always worry because I brought my bunny to the same ER and the vet she had missed that she was in kidney failure. So I worry.

Tho Kennel cough seems likely.

He eats, drinks and so far poops fine (even on the antibiotic. no diarreha yet knock on wood).

Last night he was also extremely playful. Today not so much, but that's the meds.

Opinions?

We've got two Dobermanns, one is an 18 month b*tch and the other is a ten month old dog. The b*tch is about average size, most of the other b*tches i've seen are about the same, maybe a little bit bigger. The dog on the other hand seems very small to me. He's quite chunky but just doesn't seem to be anywhere near the same height as the other dogs i've seen. I know he's still quite young but i've seen other Dobermann dogs that are younger than him and they tower over him. Does anyone know any reasons why this could be??!! Any sensible help would be appreciated, thanks.

Particularly, shoes, remotes, and video games! I know this is typical for young dogs; to add, she is kept inside while we're gone during the day because we don't have a backyard. Until we move into our new properly-equipped house, any helpful tips to train her out of chewing things that we might accidentally leave down for her?

We have a dog that is probably around 12 or 13 years old. We got him at the pound many, many years ago .. they didn't know exactly how old he was when we got him. He just recently (probably the last 6 months) has just had this horrible odor .. more than just your normal "dog smell". Everyone keeps telling me that dogs just do this when they get older. Is that true? He is the most loveable dog in the world, knows all kinds of tricks, he is part of the family. Bathing doesn't help!
