I didn't t believe in such thing until I had one. He was born sick and his mommy kept him a bit longer with her than it was necessary and grew up as a 'mommy's baby' so he was all scared and all hiding all the time. But since we leave in a house, in a big neighborhood he could not be all the time in the house.. so as time went by he became more and more confident and independent.
He never , never just once bite or scratch anything. He never used his paws at all for that. He was the best.
UNfortunately... here is where I am answering your question is where the Un-luck occurred. It sees that a neighbor from 4 houses down the street, being superstitious about black cats, and being old.. [ I suppose this excuse is better ] killed the poor tomcat and threw it in front of our door fence. It's a sad story and since then I believe that black cats are really UN-lucky.
here's a picture with Bagherra, my one and only black cat.

I have two black cats and they are very cuddly and lovable. Since I am not a witch they are not my familiars. They are just cute lovable cats like any other cute lovable cats. That is an old wives tale from back in the times when people really believed there was black witchcraft.
Lolipop: How could you blame a coldsore on a CAT? You have quite an imagination. It no doubt had far more to do with the candy and junk you were eating.

No, this is an old myth & in some cultures it's actually reversed to say that black cats bring *good* luck.
Our multi-species family includes 2 black cats & they are sweet, lovable creatures. Also, I've known many other wonderful black kitties & consider myself lucky to have them in my life.
There is one unlucky thing about black cats-- because of this archaic & lame superstition, black cats are especially hard to find homes for & many of them are destroyed simply b/c no-one wants them. So, the bad luck is *to* the cats, *from* superstitious humans. One source for this information is the rescue group we adopted 1 of our black cats from & I've heard this in various animal welfare groups as well.
I'm pretty sure it takes a cold sore more than 1 day to incubate, btw.

Black cats are no more or less unlucky than any other cats. The only unlucky thing about them is that too many ignorant people think they are unlucky so they stay in shelters for a longer time.

Some people believe that black cats are very unlucky, but my family has two black cats. They are very sweet. We've never had anything terrible happen to us. So, in reality, it's up to you. If you're superstitious, then maybe you'll believe that black cats are unlucky, but for most, black cats are just sweet animals.

No. I've had three black cats in my life. Nothing extremely unlucky has ever happened to me. I've had my fair share of bad and good luck. Actually the good usually out weighs the bad.

No my husband and I have 3 black cats. We love them very much. No hardship has come to us because of them. The only bad luck with cats, is people are superstitious, and they don't fine homes as easily.
