what makes them purr and why do they do it?

All yesterday he was running in his wheel and climbing up the side of his cage. When I woke up today, he was in his fod dish. I thought he was dead because he wasn't moving and felt cold but he walked really slowly across my hand. I think he's sick. What should I do? I've only had him for about 2 weeks and he is still really small.

My dog will sit by the door if he wants to go outside to pee/poop, so my mom will tie him up in the tile area so he won't go on the carpet when we sleep...It's cold outside so we keep him indoors...He doesn't wine or get restless or anything, and looks content but whenever I see him I feel so bad :( I hate seeing tied up dogs, it's like they're in jail or something...

like could that nasty smell you smell when picking it up be the same as human feces sometimes. somehow there is fecal matter on my car, and i hope it's just dogg dew.

My dog gave birth to 7 puppies yesterday evening. I just went outside to check on everything and noticed that there are now only 6. I looked everywhere and can't figure it out. I've kept a very close eye on them, and she's being a very good mother. She's with her pups in a huge wooden house/box thing in the garage that my husband built. I can't imagine an animal going in there and taking a pup without her barking and going nuts. Does anyone have any idea where this pup could have gone, or would the mother take it somewhere else? This is the first litter of puppies I've ever owned so, I'm just sad, and freaked out a little. Is it becouse I handled the puppies after they were born? (I transferred them to the kennell so I could clean her house for her. She went in with them, Then this morning we put them all back in her house so they would have enough room.)

Last year I adopted a five year old chow, lab mix at a humane society. Her owners had to move into an apartment with no pets. Here is the strange part. First of all they named HER Cody but I really couldn't care less, it's just a name. She doesn't like toes unless they are edible. She is the only dog that I know of that prefers to sleep under the covers with her head above and on a pillow just like me if it is cold. She only goes to the bathroom in 1 spot in the corner of our yard. Also she eats her food when she gets hungry like a cat and does the funniest thing. She gets a mouthfull and dumps it on the carpet next to her bowl. Then she picks through them and tastes each one. She neve eats the brown ones.Finally, she understands what I am saying! If I tell her to get of my bed so that I can pull up my blanket she gets down and waits for me to say 'oky' or 'alright'. If I tell her to go find my cat and say his name, she sniffs around untill she finds him.So what I ask is the deal?

She loves me to turn on the sink faucet and she'll watch it for a long time, poking at the stream or just watching the swirl it makes in sink.
But I'm afraid the landlord might start complaining.
How else can I keep her occupied?

I just bought a basic aquarium setup from Petland. It was the same one they had at our Wal-Mart but just a bit cheaper at about 30 bucks.
My question is....how many fish can I have in the tank? Do I need a heater? And is it really all I need in the box?
I also do not want to do much work with this so should I have went smaller?

My mother and I are looking to get a cat.

My grandmother highly reccomends going to the humane society because cats get put to sleep far too often.

However, Id rather adopt from a no kill facility.

I completely understand my grandmothers point, but Id rather have my money go towards keeping animals alive, rather than putting them to sleep.


Im interested to see what other people think.

My sons friend had a stray dog follow him here and naturaly, the dog tried to make a home here. She was ill...had a hacking cough and snot hanging from her nostriles. I have a dog, whom she fussed with through the fence and 4 cats whom she sniffed under the door. I had no choice but to call animal control. I asked the person who picked her up would there be any way of finding out if this dog had kennel cough or distemper? He said ,"no, that they wouldn't be testing her." I quit getting my cats shots a few years ago after learning that they cause tumors many times. My vet even told me that it happened to one of his cats. Mine being indoors I felt better about not getting their shots but now I'm concerned that they may have been exposed to distemper.

Poodles, certain terriers, and some pretty dogs do well in the group and best in show stages of dog shows, but I've noticed that Australian Cattle Dogs never do more than place in the group stage. Could it be true that if a dog isn't stylish or glamorous, it won't win? How can this be reconciled with the fact that a dog is judged against a breed standard, giving each dog the same statistical chance of victory?

What dogs have you noticed that get overlooked?

I have a Beta fish and i had recently brought him home from being at my office since the day i had bought him... I washed his tank and gave him new water. He hasnt eaten for 3 days and he just sits at the top corner of the tank. He doesnt swim around and sometimes hell just sink to the bottom as if he is sleeping.. Can you please tell me if he is ok and if not how can i make him well again? Thank you !!

If scientists manipulate genes of tigers, so that when tiger is born it always remains cub size... can it then be kept as a house pet?

I think it can, because size is the only deterrent of making them pets.

My super cool 45lb female dog feels discomfort in her rectal area until the glands just beneath that spot leak out about 1/4 cup of clear fluid. The liquid is mildly pungent but doesn't smell like feces. I don't know what the glands do. The vet says many dogs experience this and they can be surgically removed (very expensive) but I don't think surgery is good for an animal--it's very traumatic and difficult to prevent infection. The alternative is to learn how to drain them myself but that's kinda wierd to me--I didn't get her for that purpose lol. I like cuddling with my dog but not squeezing her butt. What would you do? Should I force my 9 year old step son to help out?

my betta fish has black stuff (gills?) sticking out of it's gill plate. it just goes in, out, in, out....is that normal breathing? or should it appear to be not moving at all or should it not even be appearing?? please state the reliability of your knowledge. (ie, you've had bettas for however many years, you're a vet, some fish expert, etc...)

My betta is eating flakes and swimming around happily. I'm feeding it flakes because whenever I put the betta food in, my mollies end up eating it. My betta seems to like the flakes anyway. I'm asking this question because I know that bettas are carnivores.

i found one in my bed the other night. i looked online and it doesnt look like a flea. it was extremely small and i have no idea how i saw it. ive only seen that one though...any idea what it could be?
