We are having problems with a feral cat and would like to trap it and transport it to a shelter or some other place where it will be safe from harm.

A raccoon sized live trap baited with cat food will catch them humanely without hurting their tail when the door comes down. The smaller traps can injure the tail.

Usually the shelters can lend you a trap, you put down a $50 deposit which you get back when you return the trap to them.

Best way...I'll be brutally honest. If you can catch one....break it's neck and toss it in the trash can. Seems fairly humane to me. Yeah and I just love these feral cats when they yowl and screech EVERY morning at 5 or 6 a.m.. I hate these homeless flea ridden bird killers that do nothing but piss/**** and fight all over the neighborhood. So screw you cat lovers whom add to this problem. Gonna go trap me a loud pooping cat in the near future and take it to animal shelter. At least it will be warm and stop waking me up and would be safe from my hands on it's neck. Just saying you cat freaks and you need to KNOCK IT OFF. I do not like witnessing these feral cats killing song birds - pooping on my deck or digging up my new plants to crap on. And flea ridden animals which most likely are spreading disease because someone feels like tossing some food around outside is a good idea? I so dislike you stupid irresponsible jerks that believe you are being kind. No, you're not. Unless you have a barn and they are mousers. Otherwise...You chipmunk/wildlife lovers need to realize how destructive those shitty little animals really are. I had to spend a LOT of money to fix my home foundation due to those cute peanut grabbers. Now, I keep big rat traps set outside. I smile all the way to the garbage can. Wish I could trap these nuisance cats the same way. They are a menace.. they poop wherever they want...they do nothing positive that I can remotely come up with and sure...go report me as I will try to trap or eliminate these shitty kitties YOU jerks keep feeding.

Use a humane racoon trap. I had a female kitten and her litter living in my hay loft of my barn. I put the trap and some food in it and the next morning I caught all the kittens in one swoop (the mother I cought the next night). Be careful though. These kittens were evil because they were never touched by humans...thick leather gloves and earplus are recomended. No shelter could take them, so I took them down the road to a dairy farm who has quite a few cats...I still see them out and about on a warm day.

Try using food. Lol. That's the only thing I can think of. Give it some CAT food. buy one can or something and let it eat, stand a fair distance away when he/she eats and then after a while slowly walk towards it. Try not to scare it, it might let you pick him/her up, put it in a cardboard box with holes cut into it so it can breathe.

We did this when we moved to our new house, we used food to feed a stray cat. But now we look after her.

Animal control usually will do that for you. If they can't catch it, they will leave you a trap. Good luck.
