Last year I adopted a five year old chow, lab mix at a humane society. Her owners had to move into an apartment with no pets. Here is the strange part. First of all they named HER Cody but I really couldn't care less, it's just a name. She doesn't like toes unless they are edible. She is the only dog that I know of that prefers to sleep under the covers with her head above and on a pillow just like me if it is cold. She only goes to the bathroom in 1 spot in the corner of our yard. Also she eats her food when she gets hungry like a cat and does the funniest thing. She gets a mouthfull and dumps it on the carpet next to her bowl. Then she picks through them and tastes each one. She neve eats the brown ones. Finally, she understands what I am saying! If I tell her to get of my bed so that I can pull up my blanket she gets down and waits for me to say 'oky' or 'alright'. If I tell her to go find my cat and say his name, she sniffs around untill she finds him.So what I ask is the deal?

I was looking at her papers from her previous owners. No dog training ever which I can tell because she doesn't know how to shake hands or sit. It was a couple that broke up and the male kept the dog. He had to move into an apartment on acount of lack of money, so the dog was 'owner retreat'. I know she doesn't like the taste of the brown ones. When I first got her, I mixed her old food with her new food but this didn't work out so well. She seperated the new food from the old food and only ate the new food. She obviously got diarrhea the next day and went all over one of my really old video games. I could never put her nose in it. I just picked her up and stood her next to the mess she made and told her that what she did was wrong but I knew she didn't do it on purpose. She had her tail between her legs at first but then she came over and licked my face looking real guilty and sorry. Coincidentally she was put in the same kennal as her mother. She was only in there for 4 days.

You rescued an amazing dog, that's the deal!! If more people talked about their success stories then more people would adopt and older dog :)

And even though dogs don't have human emotions they seem almost "grateful" when someone gives them a home.

Good for you!

Maybe the old owners had trained her to understand things, and maybe it slept in the bed with them
Also, the old owners having lived in an apartment, probably trained her to go to the bathroom in one spot
And alot of dogs do that weird dropping the food on the ground thing, not sure why though. Maybe she doesnt eat the brown pieces from a previous experience with a brown food

Also, your dog is very smart, so enjoy is because not many dogs out there are like that

She sound like a great dog. All dogs have weird personality traits. one of my dogs will pick up his food, put it down on the floor and eat it piece by piece. When he gets mad at me he will take his nose and splash the water out of the bowl. My basset hound will howl and turn his back on you if you talk to my other dog before talking to him. He will not go to the bathroom expect in one spot out in my yard, even if we are on walk he will go when we get home. I foster dogs for the humane society and all dogs that have been in my house have some funny little personality trait. Your dog seems to have less destructive or irritating ones then some of my foster have. As far as the food she might not like the taste of the brown pieces. One of my dogs is very particular about his dog food.

She sounds like a normal, intelligent dog.

Despite the fact that she is an animal, she will still have personality. So do not get freaked out by her quirks. From the sound of it, she is quite a good pet.

Good luck.
