There are 2 cats that belong to my neighbor & they do not feed them. They believe that cats are natural born hunters & should not depend on humans for food. Therefore the cats depend on ripping up my trash bags to find their food. I will not put out food for these cats because they are very destructive - including shredding the screens in my windows. I complained to the neighbors but once there was damage they no longer claim the cats. We do not have a shelter to take the cats to, I can not kill the things, and can not complain to the local sheriff because his solution for any animal problem is to shoot the thing. The only type of humane society we have is for dogs only. I hate the thought of catching the cats and then carrying them off somewhere else because they will just cause damage to someone else's property. Any suggestions?

The only animal control would have to be through our DNR and they only deal with animals such as deer, bear, raccoons, etc. They consider cats to be domestic animals and they will not do anything.

I really can not take in any more animals. I already have 2 indoor cats, a dog, 7 peafowl, 28 chickens/roosters, 7 turkeys, 23 pheasants and 18 rabbits. I did not intend to have this many but I live on a farm and people buy chickens & rabbits for their kids at Easter because they are so cute and then don't want them. I can not count the times I have come home to find extra animals in my yard (mainly chickens and rabbits). I just can't keep taking them in - I love them but cats that are not raised with the chickens and such tend to want to kill them when they see them running around. One of the cats have already killed a few of the bunnies that were outside.

is there an "animal control" in your area? usually they deal with wild animals. talk to them and see if they can get the neighbours to take better care of their cats. if they are not being fed, they will look for other places to get food from.

you may not like these cats because of their destructive behavior but any animal will rip open a trash bag to find food if they need to. if you were to put food out for the cats my guess is that they would stop this type of behavior. i would take them in if i were you. for a few days they might be skiddish but i think they would take to you very easily if they were in your house and you were feeding them. capturing and releasing them is not a good option. you would be dropping them off in a place that would disorient them and you have no clue about the availability of prey or the local cat population in the area you would be dropping them off at. i am positive that there is a shelter within a reasonable distance of you that takes cats. you have a computer obviously so do a search online. ask your friends if they would want a cat. i am sure once these cats end up in a place where they have shelter and food they will become very lovable and cease their destructive behavior. please try to find them a good home or just start feeding them. try to find out if they have been spayed or neutered (which i doubt) they could create a huge spay/neuter issue in the area they are currently in or any area that you would transfer them to. some vets will also foster cats and dogs until they can find a home for them. ask any vets in your area.

Hmm... Well, first off, THANK YOU for not killing the poor cats!!! The other owners were irresponsible to do that. Now...

1. Click here and try to find a shelter in your area. I know you said that their isn't any, but maybe you missed one. This is PETFINDER, and it is an all-animal-shelter site to help homeless animals find homes. Here are the shelter listings. Click on your area and check it out! http://www.petfinder.com/shelters.html

2. Ask your family members and friends if they would take in 2 cats, to be INDOOR. (If they are outdoor again, they might wreck other people's houses.) BUT YOU NEVER KNOW, MAYBE ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILY ARE LOOKING FOR CATS!!! Ask Please.

3. I know this might be hard for you, because you dislike them right now, but please try to bring them into your house, and give them some food. Who knows, maybe you will be the one ending up keeping them!!! :)

God Bless, And Good Luck!!!

:) :) :)

Feeding them would probably make them less destructive... if you are not interested in any outside pets...

The capture and drop off option is still best. Just place them in a rural area. Or take them to the next town that has a humane society for cats. With that taken care of you should follow the same procedure with your neighbors. Just make sure you leave them in an area with no nearby houses and tell them its time they learned to fend for themselves.

How about putting up a 'free cat' sign and when any takers contact you tell them to come catch them themselves? That may work at getting the cats better responsible owners.

If it was me and I lived near counrty or farms.. i would ask them to see if they wanted the cats.. alot of farm owners don't mind having cats for there barns.. it keeps the rat population down and keeps the rats from distroying the feed. you could also put them in the paper as barn cats in need of home. free.. Thats the best i can do i hope it helps
