I know that the puppys cannot leave before 8 weeks min. But I have a kennel outside and was wondering when the mother can go out into the kennel and the puppys still stay in the home by themself. Ill start to wean the puppy around 3-4 weeks old. How old should puppies be when they can start exploring the snow? Thank You!

late summer I added some wild caught minnows and a salamander to a 15 gallon tank, the salamander was young, still had the frilly gills but ate flaked fish food, its still surviving on flaked fish food(though I will be getting a proper diet for him soon)and has lost the frilly gills but is still a dull grey color, what kind of salamander is he?

My boyfriend and I purchased a female pomeranian from a lady off craigslist. She thought the dog was about two or three, but after taking her to the vet we found she was more around the age of ten. Knowing this we still don't regret buying her. She is the best dog I could ever ask for and I wouldn't trade her for the world. We've recently found out she has a mild heart murmur, arthritis in her back legs, and some throat problems. She still loves to run around and take long walks though.

I'd like to keep her around for as long as possible and will do anything in order to help her.

Any tips or suggestions would be great!

Today my dad and I visited a pet shop. They were nice and clean and sanitary. The puppies all looked healthy and had no visual flaws, they all had clear eyes and healthy coat. They each weren't crammed in a glass cage (like PetLand) and the cages were open so you were able to interact with all the puppies. They all weren't crammed in together either. There were about two little puppies in each cage (they were fairly large). The people seemed to know a lot about the dogs and breeds. There were no designer breeds. It's not a commercial store.

Do they sound reputable? How can I tell if they get their puppies from reputable breeders or just puppy mills.

I am 109% against puppy mills and buying dogs from petstores, but this seemed like a great place. And it was just for dogs, not dogs cats lizards birds snakes and mice. My dad is trying to tell me that they are good and i'm like paranoid about getting a healthy pup!

What do you know about Longship Newfoundlands in VT? Are they a good kennel to purchase a Newfie from? Have any of you purchased or know someone who purchased a Newfoundland from them?

Thank you so much (once again Not a Black St. Bernard! I wish you had a litter!)!!!

Over and over I see families who can't buy their kids shoes or coats spending money buying poor animals that they then neglect. It makes me SICK. Why are some people so AWFUL and thoughtless about their animals? Are they just possessions, things to own and collect?

i recently got a new cage for my bearded dragon about a month ago. since then, he has been staying in a wooden hide-away and won't come out to bask or anything. when i feel him, he's cold and so i put him on the log for him to bask on and he'll stay there for a while but then goes back under his hide-away. he eats healthy; crickets, vegetables, and fruits with vitamins. could it be because of the new cage? and wouldnt he be used to it by now? im worried....

I tried breeding my guppies once, and ended up with about 30 fry, which all died within 3 weeks. I kept them in a separate tank than the adults, without filtration, but changed their water regularly. They were fed ground up flakes. What should I have done differently?

Ok so I have a Leopard Gecko and I've had her for years but when I took her out to change the sand I noticed that she had these strange little bubbly like things behind her legs... Her tail is very fat and she has never had any problems before. So I was wondering if they were just excess fat (but she hasn't been eating much lately) or if its something else...
Thanks for your help!

I have some pet peeves when it comes to what certain items are called and wish people would refer to things correctly. For example, tie down surgery for a roarer is actually a Hobday, a surcingle goes over the saddle and girth as in polo or racing as a back up if the girth snaps whereas a roller is used when breaking or to keep old fashioned jute rugs in place. My biggest peeve is when people call those yellow, black and red striped rugs "Newmarket" blankets. They are used extensively in Newmarket but their correct name is a Whitney blanket because original ones are hand made in pure wool in the town of Whitney, Oxfordshire.
ps - don't stick them in the machine or they won't even fit a mini - been there, done that!
What terms or names do people use for items, tack or procedures that you wish to correct them on?

I have a five year old German Shepherd. He's always been a little rambunctious, but since he's aged, he's mellowed a little bit. My family recently got a four year old female German Shepherd/mix. Our first dog won't let the new dog near anyone in my family, and he barks at her 24/7. I know it's in the nature of GSD's to protect their territory and it's family, but it's getting ridiculous. We were thinking of getting rid of the new dog, but the kids have grown attached to it, and behaviorally speaking, she's a dream-pet compared to our first dog. I don't want to get rid of our first dog, because he was here first, and as I said before, he's just doing his job. What can we do?

I feel that I am fairly educated but I will never close my mind to further knowledge as long as it is backed by Evidence.
Can anyone here give me solid facts backed up with links to medical reports to support the theory that waiting at least 6 months for spay/neuter is healthier on dogs and cats?
I would also welcome any and all medical reports showing the dangers of pediatric spay/neuter.
Conjecture is a fine thing... but I want proof via scientific studies.

I have a 6 lb. 2 year old yorkie who can't seem to hold anything down and I have no clue why. I've been to the vet and they took an x-ray and blood test and have found nothing. They sent me home with Flagyl, Amoxi, and Cimetidine but he still can't eat and throws up the little bit of water that he does drink. I'm so frusturated because I haven't given him anything to make him so sick and he hasn't been exposed to anything. The doctors don't know what this is. Does anyone have a yorkie who had similar problems? Is it possible that the medicine can make him worse being that there is nothing in his stomach???

raccoons or squirrels eat books, chocolate and coffee? Ive been hearing an animal in the attic for months now. Ive been moving boxes in preparation to move and i started going through some of them and saw the books were torn apart and it looks like some were eaten, clawed apart? Do squirrels or raccoons eat paper or books? Or did they use it for a nest maybe? the books are all torn apart.

i haven't had my beardies for long so i'm not very experienced, but i've done some reading and the author of a book i got on dragons says he uses calcium sand as a substrate and hasn't had problems. my dad tells me he's read that you need to wash the sand before putting it into the terrarium, but i can't find anywhere that says that on the bag of sand or in the book i have. do i need to wash the sand? and if i do, how would i do that?
