raccoons or squirrels eat books, chocolate and coffee? Ive been hearing an animal in the attic for months now. Ive been moving boxes in preparation to move and i started going through some of them and saw the books were torn apart and it looks like some were eaten, clawed apart? Do squirrels or raccoons eat paper or books? Or did they use it for a nest maybe? the books are all torn apart.

Rodents will try to eat anything, but in the long run, they don't actually eat paper, although they'll probably eat chocolate. Squirrels especially make nests of any material they can find. They may chew the paper to cut and soften it for the nest, but they won't actually swallow it.

Yes, squirrels and raccoons will chew/claw/destroy just about anything. If it ate the chocolate, though, it may be dead. Chocolate has theobromine in it as well as caffeine, and that can be fatal to animals, depending on the amount consumed and the size of the animal.
