When I was pregnant, my husband changed the box, but my friend used really think dishwashing gloves to change it. The biggest thing is to make sure that you don't come in contact with the cats feces. So I would wear the gloves (get a pair that come high up your arm if you can) and a long sleeve shirt (or even like a raincoat if you had one) to change it. If your cat keep going on the fllor, try cleaning out the box with a baking soda paste. It will help get rid of the urine smell, this has worked really well for my cats. Godd luck!

Maybe he's trying to talk or yell back at you when you yell at him? lol I know my cats talk back plenty!

Toxo is only spread if you TOUCH the feces then touch your mouth. If you wear plastic gloves you're fine, if you just wash your hands afterwards you're fine too.

Besides, your cat would have had to have been exposed to toxo within recent times, they can ONLY spread it for two weeks after first being exposed, then they're immune and don't spread it anymore even if exposed a second or third time to it. Since it's very rare in cats (only 2%) the chances are very slim he even has it much less has it during this particular time.

Most humans are already immune--WE get exposed to it not from the litter box but by working in the garden or handling raw meat. If you've cut up raw meat for supper, you'll likely already have been exposed and have become immune.

So don't worry about the box, just wash your hands.

As to how often to clean it--I scoop whenever I see the surface disturbed. With 4 cats and one box, it's the only way to keep things clean for all of them.

first of all yelling at a cat is ridiculous becuause it doesnt do any good. your cat does not understand what you are trying to say. also your cat is a cat not a dog. obidience in cats is earned through trust not training. it sounds like you are one of those people who just doesnt really want a cat. and does not undersand them. but if you want to keep your cat then use double layered rubber gloves and wash your hands very well afterward. wear a face mask (like a painters mask). i know women who cleaned their litterbox when they were pregenant. if you keep yourself protected then you will be fine. the vast majority of cats do not have toxoplasmosis so dont be too worried but do protect yourself

How long have you had this cat? If you have had it awhile you probably have titers against what the doc is worried about(toxoplasmosis). You can have your cat tested for these antibiodies(blood screen). I do not recommend you start cleaning it yourself b/c it is not worth the risk. Have your cat tested or find a loving home for it.
