I know it might sound silly, but isn't it still a good way as to not spending too much money on supplies?

Sometimes, when my cat is playing with the other cat, or just randomly, he will fluff his tail up REALLY big. It looks funny. I have heard that they do this when they are scared sometimes. But why exactly do they do it?

I have been told that down south they have what is called a "Hoop" snake that grabs hold of it's tail and can roll down hill. Is this true?

Here's my situation. My wife and I have a 1 year old daughter, two cats and a Boston Terrier. We are looking for a dog who will love and take care of our family. One that will be good with our animals and be a protective of us humans. We are not looking for a huge dog. About 50 lbs would be good. My wife and I both work so we are gone for 10 hours a day Monday-Friday. We walk the dogs daily. On weekends we bring them to a local dog park and let them run and swim. We would like a dog who will not bark needlessly and who won't tear up my house and yard when I'm not there. Any suggestions?

My father's dog who is 4 years old suddenly developed severe skin itching. He started biting himself. He was taken to a hospital where a vet administered shots for 3 days. The itching seemed to cease. However on the 4th day, another vet decided to change the shot. Thereafter he developed severe lesions especially in the groin. The itching is extremely severe and he is in pain and is getting aggressive. He cannot keep food down. The only thing that seems to help is a herbal prickly heat powder that somewhat seems to soothe him. However he is very restless and hurting from the itching and sores. These are red, inflamed and oozing.
He was a stray and we got him as a puppy and seems to be a mixed breed. We do not want to take him back to the vet as the shots caused this aggravation. We tried to put amla (indian gooseberry powder) and neem powder but it made it sting even more. Are there any herbal remedies or medicines that can help?

I bought my betta and I have the air filter. It is so noisy and strong. Then there are bubbles at the top. I had it for 2 weeks and the aquarium was extremely cloudy like really bad. Plus, the color of the gravel is getting on top of the glass that covers the top part and its foaming and staying on the plastic cover. The tank just seems really gross compared to the bowl I had him in before where I could clean the bowl once a month and everything was neat and clean. I wanna take out the filter and leave the little opening for oxygen to go in. Help!

My daughter will be 2 years old Nov. 29 and we want to get her a puppy either for her b-day or for x-mas.
We want a good breed that is tolerant of children that can grow up and that our daughter can grow up with.......and that doesn't get too big.
Any ideas and suggestions would be grateful....

My cat "Red" Is 3 years old, male, neutered. Today (11/13/07) He came in and started this howling it started small then grew louder and louder he drooled a little and his body went limp he wouldn't even lift his neck during this howling phase. we pet him until he stopped and he got up, he ate and acted like it never happend. but later when he was under my bed, i tried to gently pull him out he started this howling again and went limp but didn't drool this time. I didn't notice any limping or other weirdness before this howling fit started.

Im getting worried hes not a howler hes usually quiet and hes never shown any of these weird problems before im afraid to touch him again in case hes got an internal injury or something. Can anyone help me out here? Thank you.

I'm looking for a small-ish dog that has minimum shedding and is child-friendly. Also, the cost must not be too high... I'll settle for cross-breeds. Also, it should be relatively smart- I don't want to spend ages training it.

Also, I'm a first time dog owner.
And I'm 12 ... so I want something that's not too vicious. :D

Thanks.

She's a little over a year old. She thinks it's just a big game when I try to put her collar on when we're going for a walk. Sometimes it takes so long putting it on - she bites it continually, or she runs away , wanting me to chase her. I thought she should let me put it on right away so we can go for what dogs love - walking.

I just moved out of my moms house. I had a dog and she had a dog. Her dog was very attached to my dog, my dog didn't really care for her dog. The problem is my mom's dog, Sassy is really lonely now. I took my dog with me and my brother took both of his cats so she's all alone in the house. The question is what to do? Should my mom get another dog to keep her company or will that seem like she's being pushed away for another pet? She's very possesive and a puppy will need a lot of attention and training but she's so sad and lonely, she just wanders around the house, she won't play with her toys. What should we do?

my dog recently had his vaccination, days later i saw that the same spot was bald and the skin was flaky. i appears to be inflamed and the spot where the needle was inserted seemed to be yellowish. i can't go to the vet as of the moment because i'm a student and can't not go to class. do you guys have any idea what is it? is it infected? is it possible that my dog's hypersensitive to the vaccine?

What would you expect from these horses?
A green horse? An intermediate horse? And a finished horse? Discipline makes no difference. Can be English, Western, Polo, Dressage, Racing, Barrels, Poles, Roping, Everyday Riding, Trail Horse, etc. If you were taking a horse from “start to finish”, how much time would you estimate spending on this project? Method used is not at issue. My question is directed towards how you would expect a horse to advance thru training levels (bits used at each level, length of work sessions, what is accomplished to advance to next level, etc.) to reach the desired goal. Reason for this question? I see a lot of this on Answers. “My horse is 9, I have been training him for 7 years, want to show, but I can’t because he has never been ridden in anything but a snaffle and he will not take a lead, collect himself, or backup, and I have a week to teach him this”.

Last night my 3 year old English Bulldog died suddenly from respiratory distress of some sort. When I arrived home yesterday from work he was in a panic, he was wheezing and his tongue was purple. We rushed him to Green Animal Medical Center because it is the closest emergency vet.

Two weeks earlier I took my Boxer there for a broken tooth, and he spent part of the next day there. Seven days later he developed Kennel Cough confirmed by Dr Soehnlen in Navarre. I called GAMC and informed them that my dog now had kennel cough. They stated he could not have gotten it there, but he is a very healthy dog and has not been outside of my home except for that. Through the process of the next 7 days my two other dogs and my parents dog all had kennel cough. I treated my dogs at home with rest and plenty of fluids. After a few days my Malamute and Boxer both got better. My Bulldog and my parents Black Lab took longer and were both vomiting if they got too excited. My parents took their dog to a vet in Uniontown and was told he also had kennel cough and the vomiting was normal.

Last night after my English Bulldog was rushed into the back of the vet office to be given oxygen I was placed in a room. A few minutes later , someone came in and said they would be in with a price list, not what was wrong with him, but a price list. After I stated I couldn't pay the kind of money they were looking for and would probably have to have him put down the doctor finally came in. He went from having a epilepsy disorder to a congenital heart disorder to maybe pneumonia. This was based on a an EKG. My husband and I then further discussed having him put down because we didn't want to come home one day and find him dead. The vet then decided to do a chest xray which showed his lungs were full of fluid but his heart looked fine. We explained to her again that all these dogs had had kennel cough from one dog being there. She got defensive and stated they could not have gotten it from there. We left him there with him being given antibiotics, oxygen and the doctor agreeing this could have started from kennel cough.

I received a call about an hour and a half later stating he was not doing any better and they asked if they could sedate him, I agreed. We then had another discussion regarding kennel cough and it originating from there. Again the doctor got very defensive. She went from agreeing with me that he had not needed to go to a vet with kennel cough because it is like a cold and will run its course to calling me a bad pet owner. Telling me, " I don't think you know how serious this is, he is very sick". She also went on to say possibly he had electrocuted himself (he stood two feet tall and all electric outlets were at least four feet off the floor). Twenty minutes later we got a call stating he was resting but still not breathing well. Another twenty minutes went by and we got another call stating he was taking his final breath. We rushed right there.

Upon entering the vet office my husband and I we escorted into a room. The vet came in and said she was sorry for our loss. She then went on to try to tell us how they could take care of his body for us and wanted to discuss the price options. I said I wanted him in that room so I could see him. They brought him in there and waited about 15-20 minutes before coming back to try to discuss money with us again. We told them to leave the room. We then picked him up and brought him home were we buried him on our farm land.

The vet that was saw was Dr Sarah Ford. She was very rude and all they cared about was money. I want to know if somehow they can be investigated, because many other dogs could have gotten kennel cough from there if they we there the same time my Boxer was. They are so adamant that he didn't get it from there that I don't think they would even look into it.

We now believe he was aspirating when he vomited for those few days. And even though he got better from the kennel cough, the fluid was just building in his lungs.

..this has always puzzled me. I mean they don't shoot people when they break a leg, they get it put in plaster and wait a few months till it heals.
I know that would be difficult with a horse but surely some way could be found ?...

I would like to get a new betta fish to put in a 2.5 gallon tank I already have but is not currently being used. Since the tank has been put away for a few weeks, it needs to be cycled again before I get the new betta. I have read that using gravel, filters, or decorations from an established tank can speed up the cycling of a new tank. If this is true, I would like to use a few pieces from an established 10-gallon tank I have. My questions are:

1. Is this a good way to speed up the cycling of a new tank?

2. What should be done to the stuff before I put it in the new tank (Rinse it in dechlorinated water? Just put it in as-is)?

3. No fish in my 10-gallon tank have ever become sick, so can I assume there are nothing harmful that could be transfered to the new tank?

4. Will this disrupt my 10-gal tank?

2 days ago my dog was bit on the nose by another dog. My dog was vaccinated for rabies (her last vaccination was 10 days ago b/c I just adopted her). She is acting weird today. Didn't wake up at her normal time to go out for her walk. I woke her up myself. She was walking very slowly. She did go to the bathroom (1 &2). She drank a lot of water when she woke up but she wont eat anything. Now she is laying around not moving much. Today is the first day she has been acting this way since I got her and she NEVER refuses food. Please any insight you have on this would be helpful.
