I need educated answers or examples. I am trying to prove to some stubborn fool that YES smoking is bad for dogs even tho they cannot tell you that they do not like it.

Honesty this is ridiculous. It's common sense right? This fool seems to believe that because a dog cannot verbally tell you its bad (using the human language no less) It must be fine for them despite the fact that dog dog sneezes excessively when ever he is exposed to it.
Im mostly just sick of having this stupid argument and want to provide this proof he keeps asking for....

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=2nd+hand+smoke+dogs
That is the results of my Google: "2nd hand smoke dogs". One of the results:
Second-Hand Smoke: A Triple Threat to Dogs and Cats By Amy G. Casey
http://ezinearticles.com/?Second-Hand-Smoke:-A-Triple-Threat-to-Dogs-and-Cats&id=801529
The first paragraph states:
"It makes sense that second-hand smoke affects the health of our pets, but our furry friends suffer a triple-threat from tobacco. In addition to the obvious danger of lung cancer, dogs and cats lick the residual tar and nicotine from their coats, which can cause mouth and throat cancers. Curious animals also face potentially fatal nicotine poisoning from eating any tobacco products they find."
Another quotes:
http://no-smoking.org/march04/03-08-04-5.html
"A study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology found that dogs in smoking households had a 60 percent greater risk of lung cancer; a different study published in the same journal showed that long-nosed dogs, such as collies or greyhounds, were twice as likely to develop nasal cancer if they lived with smokers."
"And in yet another study, vets from Tufts University found that cats whose owners smoked were three times as likely to develop lymphoma, the most common feline cancer."
You can access the full studies at the above site.

Absolutely, the canine body is the exact same as a humans. They have the same aliments as humans. Dogs can be obese, catch a cold, have allergies. Cancer unfortunately is all to common in both humans and canines. Second hand smoke is soo deadly. The only difference most people have the intelligence to walk away from the smoke. Dogs do not know better. They may dislike it but do not know the ramification of inhaling someone else nasty habit. Second hand smoke can be deadly to any one/thing that comes in contact with. Remember the smoker has a filter to inhale the nicotine bystander have no filter the breath and inhale more of the chemicals then the smoker. You shouldn't smoke period. but if you need to smoke you should do it away from all non-smokers children and animals
And on a personal note to smokers: CIGARETTE butts are litter stop throwing on the streets and sidewalks bad enough you pollute our air but our streets too!!!!

Yes it is as bad for dogs as it is for humans. It can cause breathing problems such as asthma, bronchitis, etc in dogs as well as lung cancer. Cigarette smoke is a poison. No one man or animal should have to breathe the stuff. The smokers choose to put the smoke into their bodies. People around them and the animals that share their homes do not have a choice. They get poisoned little by little, one cigarette at a time. Just like people with kids who do not care what their smoking is doing to their children. Poison.

I would say yes just as it is bad for humans it is bad for animals as well.
But arguing with someone who is close minded and obviously not very intelligent should not be worth your time or frustration. If they want to believe that the world is square and second hand smoke actually promotes a longer life for both humans and animals let him.
To the poster above mine (Alicia H?) - I believe the exhibit that you are referring to is Body Worlds. Which by the way is an AWESOME exhibit and everybody should go see it! :)

Second hand smoke is bad for anyone who has lungs. It affects animals the same way it affects humans. Good luck trying to prove this to your stubborn friend.

Yes. Smoking around your pets can lead them to have respitory problems. Cigarette smoke can and does cause cancer in companion animals just as it does in humans. Here's an article on the subject.
http://www.smokefreesociety.org/NewsClip/Pets-1.html
I read about the effects a while ago, and I have since started smoking outside, and am now well on my way to quitting.

A dog's body structure is similar to the human's. Their lungs are as sensitive as ours, if not more. Second hand smoke can affect any breathing, living organism.

Humans have lungs as do dogs. Don't tell me that dogs have a super immunity to the smoke.
One could also argue that humans get rotten teeth, cavities, and abscesses, and dogs don't.
You understand the illogical argument.
