My vet said something about 1 frontline treatment every 3 months in the winter because you don't need all three... Anyone know when is the correct month?

Michigan gets winter right? Usually fleas are not present outside in winter......but they can live up close to the house if you don't get a lot of snow. Late spring is usually when they hatch out. You can use the frontline, advantage and revolution all year round. Your vet is probably trying to save you a few bucks by having you do every other month in winter because the chance of picking up fleas at this time is pretty low. But, if you animals go to the groomer or have to be boarded, the chance of picking up fleas is greater. Also if they go to play at a dog park, you never know whats on the other animals. Or if you have had a problem with fleas in the house, I would keep them on it.

Hey there...I live in Michigan.

Fleas need humidity to thrive, so summertime is the worst time for fleas. Autumn/Fall is also a bad time.

If you live in Michigan, then you know how the weather is. It is mid November and it is chilly outside, yet the sun is still shining and it gets humid. I would still put Frontline on your cat every month until you see pure white snow out in your yard. Then you can probably administer it every 3 months.

I will always do it every month though, just to be safe.

Flea season is year-round if at any point your animal carries just one flea. Fleas shed eggs the entire time they are alive, and these eggs will lay dormant in your carpet, furniture, doghouses, anywhere your pets have been until conditions are ripe for them to hatch.

If you really want to deal with fleas 100%, use Frontline every month all year round, to control not only the fleas that explode outside in the warm months, but also those that will still infest your home, garage, and doghouse.

It doesn't matter which month, just do it every three months from when ever the weather turns cold!! Treating every month would not be a bad thing.

The vet is correct to say to treat all year round. Fleas are not a seasonal thing as once believed.

Flea season is generally April to September but given the unnaturally warm temps this year - and in past years, you should continue treatment.
