They actually "scare" him and he doesn't know what to make of them. He doesn't remember being one himself and playing with his siblings.

So it is not a question of not liking them - they are just very alien to him right now. He will undoubtably get used to them.

Actually, Mistique, recent research has confirmed that cats are generally social creatures. The older males are kicked out of feral cat colonies, but females and kittens until adolescence are very interconnected. Occasionally older male cats (especially littermates) will bond, groom each other and sleep together. Cats can even cooperate in hunting, especially when teaching kittens.

That being said, it's true that most cats hunt alone, adult males don't usually have anything to do with kittens, and every cat has a unique personality & can be an exception to any rule. I'm not sure, from the way the question was worded, whether the "big cat" and the kittens were just introduced. If so, that's the reason. Male cats don't usually like small kittens--some toms will actively try to injure them. He may also dislike the change in his routine or status, &/or he may dislike or be afraid of the kittens' mother. (Mama cats can be surprisingly fierce!) There are all sorts of possibilities, but it's a natural & very common reaction.

Later on, when the kittens are older & more able to "act like proper cats," he may be interested in meeting & playing with them. (Especially the girls! A lot of litters are born to females "too young to go into heat.") Until then, make sure he still gets a fair share of attention & lovin's, even if he doesn't want to hang out with the "little brats."

Same thing happened to my cat when a brought home a kitten. Don't worry about it. It's normal cat behavior. Eventually they will get found of each other, trust me. My cats now sleep together. But felines are solitary predators, they only tolerate each other.

Maybe he doesn't like change....It has nothing to do with his size. It could be he doesn't like them.
