I am thinking of getting a couple of hermit crabs as pets. How long do they live for and has anyone else ever had them? Also, what essential kit is needed apart from vivarium and heat lamps?

My cat has lost all the nerves in it's tail, and it's tail is "dead". I have been advised by the vet to have it amputated in case it gets caught in anything the cat will not be able to feel it. The cat is however in NO pain or discomfort. The procedure is however going to cost $1000 or more.

Do you think that it is important that I have the amputation done or not? What would you do?

or do you know some poisen by the box jelly? no? what about all those vicious venomous snakes in austrialia, do they come into your homes like on adventure world tv. two places i am afraid to visit -- india and austrailia. i am afraid of snakes and i see nothing pretty about them and the argument they are important rat killers, well that is phooey. i have poison to take out all rats if need be. you have so many awful poisonous creatures why not eliminate them so i can come visit and surf and sail and see the funky looking little black midgets that blow the diggerydoo thingie? dont mind the gigantic crocks. would bother with them. they stay in the river, i hope. they are cool from a distance like on tv.

Have you raised your cat to take car rides with you?
Just adopted an adorable kitten.
Would LOVE to train this cat from kittenhood to adulthood to ride in cars, take cat walks {on one of those cat leashes they sell}, and from the start {after all their shots/distemper,ect} give them occassional baths--not a lot of baths just maybe once a month
BACK TO CAR QUESTION THOUGH :o)
thanks

Tuesday i thought was a very momentuous day,i trapped the 4th and final stary/feral cat and had her spayed, shots, etc(4th meaning there are 4 feral cats that i feed daily)However an un expected twist happend. While she was recoverying in my spare bedroom, i realized she wasnt feral, more likely a dumped or abanded cat. everytime i went to check on her, she would follow me, try to stand on me a purr, and want to be petted, the complete opposite of the previous three who would hide under the bed until i would open the doors in my house to give them a passage way to go back outside and be free.
I feel horrible becuase i already have three indoor cats and cant have anymore (my parents whom im very close with, even though i own place without them, had warned me that 3 is enough and anymore they wont visit me) what should I do?from watching her, eventhough she is friendly to me, the other cats who her offspring she is mean to, slaps them, and doesnt seem to conducive to living with cats

Well, you know they have cat leashes at the pet store.
and I just adopted a kitten. When he gets older, just big enough for a cat leash, I'd like to 'train' the feline to become accustomed to walks outdoors so they get a taste of the outdoors.
back to original question~do u take ur cats on walks?

I had a salt water tank that has been up and running for the last year. I had 20lbs of live rock when I started, the problem is my PH always fell to 7.8. After talking to the guide in my local pet shop I added 55lbs of live rock to my 46 gallon tank. My ammonia is now .50, the nitrite is 1.0, and the nitrate is 10. By the way, I also have 60lbs of live sand.

Personally, I chose my favorite breeds based on personality. I love Chesapeake Bay Retrievers even though they look like plain old boring brown dogs.

My betta fish is acting weird. It won't eat the pellets and just smells them and backs away from them. the color of the fish is also turning faded. i am housing him in an average goldfish size bowl. also the fish has been just staring straight forward and staying at the top of the bowl. i even put a mirror up to the side of the bowl, which he should react to and he didn't react at all. hes just mopping around all day and i want to know whats wrong with him. please help.

I am debating on getting a pair of spurs to help motivate my sometimes hard-to-deal-with mare. She's not horrible, but when I want her to go somewhere, usually uphill (even when another horse is leading), she fights me (spinning and going the other way). This last weekend, she did just this and my girlfriend got on her, poked her a couple times with spurs and right up the hill she went.

For someone who has never used spurs, what types would you recommend? I was thinking Prince of Wales spurs would be sufficient, but do you think that is too much to start? Another friend recommended bumper spurs, but I can't find them to see what they look like.

I have also used a crop (which works), but don't feel comfortable using it because it frees up one of my hands. Hense my thinking spurs are my next step.

Any and all suggestions are welcome-except from those who think spurs are cruel...please don't feed me that bs...I am not an abuser.

I love it but my dogs are really babied and they stay perched on me all day. I'm home all day with them. I didn't sleep with one of them last night. I'm trying to get them out habit. The problem is I have chronic pain and they feel like heating pads lol. They get plenty of exercise.

I adopted him in April. He follows me from room and room, massages my back with his claws, and sometimes sleeps in my bed with me, but he refuses to let me pet him or hold him...he bites.

Does my cat hate me? Can this be worked on, like with a dog, or is it a lost cause?

This was suggested as a remedy in an earlier question that I asked.

If I were to do this, how much olive oil would I give her and how would I get it into her? I have an eye dropper and also a plastic syringe that could be used.

What should I do?

Thanks

First let me say I am a avid believer in spaying and neutering animals and every animal I have ever owned has been (aprox. 15 cats and 3 dogs over 22 years and none ever had offspring). Since moving out and buying my own house I aquired two kittens--one in Sept of last year and one in April of this year. I got Tess spayed as soon as the vet reccommended however I have been more reluctant with Maddie. No real reason other than I like the status quo and don't want her to be away from me overnight. There is absolutely no possible way for her to get pregnant so that is not a concern. I am just curious what to expect since I have never had a cat past 6 months without being spayed. Maddie is a very social kitten who has never met a stranger so being more affectionate as I have read really won't be noticeable ( from the minute I walk in the door til the moment I go to bed she is wrapped around my neck like a scarf--its her fav place). She was born in Feb so about 9 months now.
