Dogs usually become extremely nervous and anxious. They'll whimper and try and hide somewhere safe, like under the bed or in a hallway. They may also try and run out of the house in an attempt to outrun the earthquake.

A similar question was asked here not too long ago. I think that dogs may have some sort of ability to detect natural disasters or impending storms to a degree, but there's really no telling when an earthquake is going to hit. I mean, your dog may bark or act strange, and remember not all dogs do that but it's really not something that happens alot.
What i can tell you (and what i answered to the other question) you know how when you see huge huge huge grey, almost black storm clouds and you just know that there's going to be a big storm, but at that time it's really eerily calm and there's sort of no wind or anything, just calm, silence and all you can hear is all the dogs down the street barking madly -- i guess that shows to an extent that dogs can feel a natural disaster coming up.. when it comes to earthquakes, i dont know how they'd react to them.

About 2 1/2 years ago we had a minor earthquake in Memphis. I had surgery the day before and I was staying with my parents. Their dogs did nothing. Didn't flinch, didn't whine, bark, or anything. They did freak out when we had the quake though.
My roommate was home with my dogs and told me they just plain freaked out. She said my border collie kept pawing at her and whining...almost growling. My other dog kept trying to get out of the house...
Although they were both young and kind of spastic, my roommate said she could tell that this behavior meant something. She actually called to check on me to see if I was okay.
I don't know if this is normal or not, but this is what I heard.

each dog reacts differently. for some, a nervous reaction is shaking badly, another, it may be barking, some lose bladder control, another might hide, and some may come to you with a scared look. just watch the body languauge, you will be able to tell!

Don't bet on them doing anything. We recently had a 5.6 quake hit. It did not even faze my four dogs. It was like a normal thing to them. It started to worry my grandson and me. Then it was over.
