The breed you just got requires a lot of care and attention to be a happy and stable member of your family.
Leaving "it" outside is not the way to make "it"happy OR stable.
They are one of the most needy dogs you will ever be around as far as wanting human companionship.
Please don't leave your pet outside for all the reasons everyone has listed.
My concern right now is that you have referred to your pet as an"it" rather than "he" or "she".
Have you even bothered to name "it"?

APBT's have very short hair and don't care much, generally, for cold weather. They also LOVE to be around their people, so your dog may be miserable being outside alone. That's not to say that some dogs don't thrive as outdoor dogs. This breed doesn't have protection from plunging temperatures. Best to bring her in from the cold or make sure she has suitable shelter to keep her warm outdoors. If this is a puppy, you may want to consider getting a kennel cab and letting her sleep in that, near your bed. There are a lot of good articles on 'crate training your dog' if you type that into the search bar above.
Congrats on your dog! I own a female APBT and two other dogs, mixed breed.

I own two pit bulls. Im not sure of your climate, but generally these months are too cold for pit bulls (who are partial to warm climates), to sleep outside. It could be dangerous and VERY uncomfortable for your new pet outdoors. If you're concerned about him being destructive then you have the option on crating or baby gating him, but confining him to the harsh weather isn't the best idea. Good Luck!!

Pit bulls have very short fur so it won't provide good insulation from the cold. But how old is your dog ? If it's a puppy, better get it indoors, maybe in the garage or in a crate inside. Puppies cannot regulate temperature well. The rule is if it's too hot or cold for YOU, then it's the same for your dog.

Why would you spend money on a dog then leave it outside with the trash? If youre not going to take the animal in the house, get rid of it. The dog deserves better. Hell I'll take it and add to my 3 ring circus. At least the dog will have a warm dry place to sleep and get attention.

That would be cruel to leave a puppy outside or even a grown dog on a cold night. Why get a dog if it`s going to be banished to the outdoors. Do u even have a doghouse ready if ur going to insist on keeping it outdoors. A dog should be part of the family, not tied outside in all kinds of weather. Bring it in where it will be warm and not isolated alone.

I don't think that any dog should be left outside. Dogs are pack animals and dogs left alone tend to become desocialized and that can cause major problems. Outside dogs are not only susceptible to the elements (rain, wind, cold, heat) but also to insects (ticks, squitoes), to other animals (coyotes, cats, raccoons, rats, other dogs). Therefore, leaving your dog outside really is and can be cruelty.
Dog fights with racoons are not pretty sights. Nor are dog fights with cats. Want to explain to your neighbor that your dog killed their cat even t hough it was in your yard?
Bring the dog inside. Target, PEtCo, PetSmart, Wal-mart etc all sell dog beds for about 15-50.00 and that can be where the animal is taught that it will sleep. That way, it won't be on your couch or in your bed.
You can also spend about the same amount on a crate - and then the dog can have its own "room" to sleep in. The crate can be in your bedroom, but the dog is safely contained and therefore won't eat the couch, the trash, etc).
Please bring the dog inside - it's really what's best.

If it is an outside dog normally, it should have a retreat shelter. A Dogloo (an igloo shaped heavy duty polymer dog house) is really good for low temperatures if you add bedding and blankets and place it out of the wind. Our boxer was an outside dog with her former owner and stays in a sheltered enclosure with us. She has a dogloo inside the enclosure with sheets and blankets if she doesn't drag them outside, which often she does. Her pup, who is nearly grown, stays in the dogloo alongside her when it is cold weather (they'll bunch up together-he was raised outside too). If you take proper precautions, then there's nothing wrong with letting your dog sleep outside, but he or she does need to be kept dry, out of the wind and sheltered. Our house is too cluttered and small at present to bring the dogs inside, but we socialize them by spending hours each day with them, trying to convince them that we're more interesting than the deer and bunnies they try to run after...
P.S. The enclosure should be just that--enclosed, so the dog can't run off and wild things can't get inside.

I have a Pit Bull and I can tell you they do not do well in the cold weather. Even during the cold months I will not leave mine in her kennel to long because she will start shivering. And puppies should always be indoors kept warm.
Also make her part of your family they are people please rs and love to hang out with you. They are actually pretty grace full of course training is needed. ( and don't forget to social your dog). consider spaying or neutering your pet!

It could freeze. Is he not a part of your family? Would you leave your kids outside at this time of year?
I just don't think that dogs should be dumped outside. What's the point of having a dog?
Would it hurt to keep him safe and warm inside? You'll probably get lots of happy slobbery puppy kisses for being such a good owner!
