He takes Lasix and Digoxin daily. He frequently gasps for breath especially when he comes up the steps. When he is lying on the ground you can see the intensity of his breathing. He has severe smelly ear problems and is slightly blind. There are many many times when he messes in the house. I want to take him to the vet but my husband makes me feel bad. Saying that I just want to put him to sleep. Am I being horrible or is the dog suffering and would this be better for him.

Is getting so expensive, heating bills on the rise, food costs sky rocketing and all the fires, hurricanes etc. Do you think we will see more questions about people not being able to afford vet care for their dogs? Do you keep an account "just in case" there is an emergency for your dog?

He showed no signs until tonight when he started panting. Dr. said it might be cancer but could be other things too, and they're doing surgery in 2 hours. I need to hear from anyone who's awake and reading because I'm a total wreck. This cat is like my child and I'm trying not to think it's the worst thing.Has anyone had this happen and have their cat not have cancer? Until today my cat was healthy, always kept indoors, shots up to date, and regular vet visits.

Well, I'm planning to get two rats (I'm fully aware that rats need company most of the time, and I wouldn't feel happy if I knew my rat was lonely...). Unfortunately, my parents won't let me buy them from breeders... I'm forced to buy them from Petco or Petsmart. So,
1) Petco or Petsmart? (I'm aware that pet stores have many inbreeding, and are sometimes not treated properly.. but I have no choice.)
2) I've already done a pretty good share of research, and I'm still looking for more. Any important facts or suggestions I should know?
3)http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752727&cp=2767038.2769317&pg=4&fbn=Taxonomy%7CHabitats+%26+Cages&fbc=1&clickid=topnav_dropdown6_link6&parentPage=family&keepsr=1#RatingsDetail
Is this a good enough cage?
If not, please recommend a better one, but at either Petco or Petsmart...
As you can see, I'm limited in choices...

We recently got a Syrian hamster because our Dwarf hamster died of unknown causes and she chews through most of the plastic in her cage. I know they like to chew on stuff to wear down their teeth. There are 2 wood chews, and a salt stone in her cage. We are also feeding her the Extrusion all-in-one pellets. She won't chew on the wood chews and as soon as we gave her the salt stone she went straight for the plastic holder instead. Is there anyway to get her to stop chewing the plastic and lean more towards the items we provided for her? I don't want her getting sick from all of the plastic she is consuming.

my puppy started training classes and so far he only listen when he knows he is getting a treat... so i have been though two 7oz bags in 4 days!!! i have started to cut the treats in half and in thirds when i give it to my pup, because i noticed they have too many preservatives including anti-freeze one.

so if you know of any healthy treats please let me know... THANKS!!!

Does anyone have any idea as to why my goldfish sleeps completely upside down? I always think he may have died and when I tap on the glass he flips over and starts swimming around again..

I just adopted her yesterday and she's a 5 month old short haired tabby, and all her life she grew up in a cage until i adopted her. She has diarreah and she has been throwing up a little. she's been drinking a lot of water and today she has been eating a little bit. she wouldn't eat her dry cat food that the shelter provided but she will lick and eat a little bit of the wet food.
I'm just wondering if it's stress because she has been playful but she's still a little jumpy because she's in a new place.

Sometimes he like... sits, but pulls himself - basically dragging his butt on the carpet.
He chews on his paws to the point it sounds really disturbing, and he has coughs or something like that... like clearing his throat.
Also, he's really itchy. e.e;

Doctor, fleas, or serious thing?

A few weeks ago I was at the dog park and a little dog was there running around with a muzzle. Apparently, the owner was a guy with a couple youngish kids. When they were getting ready to leave, somehow one of the kids took off the dog's muzzle. I overheard the dad say something like "What'd you do that for? He can kill another dog." Now, likely he was exaggerating, but still...

In one way, I look at it and say that the dog park can be great for unsociable dogs to learn appropriate dog social skills. I totally sympathize with these people if this is what they're attempting. On the other hand... if that dog really is dangerous... is it worth the risk?

OK, so some stupid kid took off his dog's muzzle. But not all dogs have stupid kids attached to them. If the muzzle is secure, do you think it's that bad?

Would you leave the dog park if a muzzled dog showed up?

If you had a dog you were rehabilitating, would you ever take him to the park muzzled to develop his socialization skills?
