I can give you some reasons why people breed them :
1) raised for their fur !!
2) live feeder food for snakes.
3) for the meat, some raise them + sell them to other people, store chains.
4) raise them to sell to labs for experiments.
5) live rabbits used to be used as bait in greyhound races
now the good reasons :
5) raise them for pets for others.
6) they make an adorable pet >! !<
7) just like any other animal, they make great companion pets
8) can reduce stress, great at nursing homes for visits.
10) give unconditional love, are affectionate to us.
11) bred to compete in rabbit shows, selling their litters from the champion stock so others can feel the joy of showing rabbits.
I dont approve of the first 5.
I have 8 of them + they are my furry kids.

To whoever said they have short lifespans.. The average lifespan for a pet rabbit is 8 to 10 years if properly taken care of. Same as a dog or a cat. The oldest rabbit on record lived to be 23.
Rabbits make nifty pets (though not good for children). They also taste very good. Many wild animals depend on rabbits for a main portion of their food. In some places they are nuisance animals though.

They act as food for other animals, and reproduce quickly. Other than that, they're not important. Why do you ask?

They are extremely intelligent animals and make wonderful, WONDERFUL pets!
And, sadly for one of my bunnies, raccoons find them tasty.

I do not think they are good pets to give children since they have a short life span....
