I just adopted her yesterday and she's a 5 month old short haired tabby, and all her life she grew up in a cage until i adopted her. She has diarreah and she has been throwing up a little. she's been drinking a lot of water and today she has been eating a little bit. she wouldn't eat her dry cat food that the shelter provided but she will lick and eat a little bit of the wet food.
I'm just wondering if it's stress because she has been playful but she's still a little jumpy because she's in a new place.

there are ways of reducing her stress when she is still adjusting to her new home with you...
the proper way to introduce a cat to a new home is to actually confine it to one room with it's litter box and food for a couple of days; then slowly allow your cat to explore the rest of the house while you supervise; after about a week the cat should have the run of the home even when you are not there (unless the cat proves it's self a behavioral problem, which the majority of cats don't)
the reason for this gradual introduction of a cat to a new home is because cats hate change (and they get overwhelmed easily)!
Many cats when first brought home will run and hide under furniture, some people even loose their new pet for a couple of days
to calm the cat's stress levels and make them feel comfortable in their new space it is best to go one room at a time
it is also good to do this for their safety, confining a new cat to one room gives you more time to "cat proof" the rest of the home

honestly, I'm not sure how much of this is stress...it could be that your kitten is alittle ill; do you have a vet appointment scheduled for her?
shelter cats tend to pass alot of illness around to each other, including upper respiratory infections and kennel cough, it may be that your kitten has one of these common problems.
Take her to the vet and have her checked out; this is generally a good idea for any new pet, even if they show no signs of illness it is still a good idea to take them in right away just to get a clean bill of health in the beginning and to register her with the vet

hope this was helpful

cats are strange little creatures. the diarrhea could be due to a change in eating habits or intestinal parasites. if it continues, take her to the vet. her eating habits should improve soon as she adjusts to her new diet and surroundings. she may not be able to eat dry food yet b/c her teeth are still too small. my kitties, when sick, would always "manage" to lick up a little sour cream. it would stimulate their appetites. time and patience are all you need, and you'll have a companion for years to come. i also had a short-haired tabby companion for 17 years, as well as his calico "sister" for 16 years. there's nothing like unconditional love. take care of her, and she'll take care of you.
