Take it from me. If some lion confronts you in your jungle itinerary just work yourself upto you top and roar at him. No don't mimick him. Showers choicest abuses you can remember(if you remember) Ten chances to one he will turn tail and run for his life. This is not a joke. This is the usual reaction of the African tribals in such situations. An English hunter who was going through the jungle with his Black carrier faced a similar situation. His carrier keeping presence of mind scolded the lion for interrupting them in this way. And the Englishman r eports the lion bolted from there and they walked on. However, the lion kept coming back but whenver he came near the Black would againt run to him and shower choicest Black abuses on him.The lion would run away. The was repeated three-four times but by that their camp had come nearer and the lion turned tail. African sararees have also confirmed that a wild beast unless it is old and cannot give chase to the swiftfooted deers etc. only turn towards man hiding their life-long fear of man. I would not advise you to go to the jungle for testing this theory without obtaining copyright from me.

I feel, "Wow, poor thing... so majestic... and so out of place here in south Texas in a concrete enclosure..."
What crosses my mind, "Cool!" Especially when he roars and it sounds just like he's got a microphone under him. Awesome!
What will I try to do?
Hmm.. I won't "try" anything... I'll hope he does something more entertaining than yawn and sleep... maybe he'll get up and walk a couple paces... maybe roar again.
Then I'll go on to the next exhibit... the hyenas...
**EDIT**
BTW, in the wild, always be with a buddy or two... that way, you don't have to outrun the lion, you only have to outrun the slowest buddy... :-)

Great! From the safety of my car at Lion Country Safari. I think that without the protection of the car I would be scared.
When we went there were two lion cubs and got to view them through the glass. They looked like ordinary kittens except for their huge paws romping and playing. Then one of the staff members announced it was feeding time...a lady came in and swaddled them up one at a time and bottle fed them milk. I was so jealous of her job!

umm i've been face to face with a tiger....my dad was getting remarried and the lady that they hired to make the bridesmaid dresses had a pet tiger in her backyard, the kids swam with it and everything. it jumped up on the screen door and i pet it on the nose. it was very humbling and scary and hell. a year later, it was on the news that the tiger had ripped the families nephews arm completely off. they blamed the lil boy. all i know is when i heard that i was like, never again, never again....for sure, scary experience.

I've been "face to face", so to speak, only once. It was with a lioness who had cubs so she was pretty pissed of at me being around. To put in bluntly, you crap yourself. But the biggest rule of all, Whatever you do, don't run. Just slowly move back everytime she stops, and stop and shout everytime she moves forward.

He He - seen a couple who say - RUN
You do that and you're lunch
To try to save yourself you would stand your ground, make yourself as big as you can, and very slowly but steadily back off
