PLEASE READ BEFORE ANSWERING

my dog is a 2yo staffy x and a few month back he started licking he's paws excessively, and then started to gnaw at them.
OF COURSE i took him to my vet, who tried a number of things - cone (elizabethan) collar, antibiotics, foot bathes.. to no avail.
i have since seen a dermatologist vet and we have realised that his paws are worn down so thin (SLIGHTLY bleeding at times) due to running on the v. rough concrete in my yard.
no matter how sporty and "durable" dog boots i buy, they are just not cutting it (he is VERY active).
SO i need to do something to get rid of the rough concrete.

I AM A UNI STUDENT AND DONT INTEND ON LIVING HERE FOR MORE THAN A COUPLE OF YEARS.
I CANT SPEND MORE THAN A COUPLE $HUNDRED.

so far i have thought of
- painting concrete with something smooth? is this going to work on very rough concrete
- putting down large rubber mats (expensive), a tarp (time consuming), mulch? (painful perhaps?)

any other ideas/thoughts?

The bully is a big cat...several pounds bigger than the others, and he seems to want to establish dominance on the other two on a daily basis. It's getting old, but I hate the idea of giving him or the other two away. But the female that's being bullied has become afraid to use the litter boxes, I guess he is attacking her while she's relieving herself, I haven't seen him doing it, but she has begun having bowel movements around the house. Somebody help me with this! Thanks.

My poor dog is scratching his skin red and raw. I feel sooooooo BAD for him, but I cannot take him to the vet since payday is 2 weeks down the road. I see NO fleas or any sort of critters of any kind anywhere. I have given him a bath and then someone suggested some benadryl. NOTHING is working/helping and he is CONSTANTLY still scratching or chewing himself to pieces. Is there an answer??? Is there a remedy till I can get him to the vet???

i have 16 month old male husky mix dog, and i decided to put a shock collar on him because he was utterly restless and showed very high levels of energy. Often he would run and jump around a lot in the house for no reason. When i walked him, his pace was way more faster than mine and i had to pull leash a lot.

But with shock collar he makes lots of grimacing faces and keeps on scratching around the collar repeatedly. He has stopped being restless and has slowed down, but it feels as if he is in utter discomfort. what to do?

they say human's are the highest form of God's creatures, and are actually considered as animals..it fascinates me that of all the animals ever exists only parrots could talk..
somehow peculiar for science says monkeys/apes is where human came from.. so why do they can't talk?

My staffy is not a huge fan of water, whether it be from her water bowl or the rain, she does not like it touching her, and getting her in the bath is one huge drama! Now that my mum has started working away, there is no way i myself can even get her near the bathroom let alone the bath tub. I have tried all kinds of treats and the bugger will snatch and run. What can i do? she is starting to smell like a dog again.hahaha

will not accept Pit Bull type dogs of any age. and IF they make exception will put them down right away? No chances only the end! I think this makes people keep them then treat them irresponsiably just to keep them alive?
Your thoughts please?

Now I need to have a splake again, the problem is, how do I breed a char and a yamame trout? They are so agressive to each other..... thats why its a miracle if I see a splake fry. I only have 1 Yamame Trout and 74 Char(numbers are overwhelming isnt it) so how could I make these 2 species to have peace treaties and mate.

For those who dont know CHAR:
Size:5"-1'04"
This is a Nikko-Char, a strain of the White-Spotted Char, characterized by its small white spots on its back and flanks. They are mutiple spawners that spawn each year after maturation.
They are known to grow up to 1'06" in rivers and 5'00" in lakes. Life expectancy is about 6 years.

YAMAME TROUT:
Size:Ave. between 5" to 1'00"
The most notable charactheristic are the 10 or so large oblong or parr marks found along the flanks.
This is for the 2nd batch of answerers.
I already had a splake but then it died from fish lice.
I need to have one more

I give my cat's catnip a few times a day and on Friday night's I mix it in their food, I figure if I'm going out and partying they may want to too. I've noticed over the years they almost seem to be dependent on it, like it's a drug they need because they are use to it.
I'm thinking about cutting them off, but I'm concerned they might suffer from withdrawls, if Is this an irrational concern? I heard if people are cut off from certant drugs the suffer terribly. I would never want to see my, or any pets suffer. I'm actually thinking about keeping them on the stuff for their whole live's for this very reason. Should I, Shoulden't I , they seem happy it's just I stopped smoking herb and now I feel better, I wonder I they would be happier if I stopped enabeling their habbit? Whadaya think?, Please have some fun with this one.

Any suggestions for cleaning products that are safe for birds? I have 2 bird cages in my bedroom that is connected to the bathroom and 1 cage in the living room that is connected to the kitchen. When I got them I was told to throw out all cleaning supplies but water is not cutting it lol. Any suggestions would be great.

Would it be considered neglect if you go to the vet with a sick animal, find out the bill is too expensive, and decide not to treat? And where is the line drawn? i.e., refusing to treat an ear infection vs. refusing to treat a broken leg?

I went to look at a GSD at the humane society today. I am thinking about adopting him. The lady who talked to me about him told me the owner gave him up because he was infertile. That does not bother me because I planned on having him fixed. They offered a discount on him because he can't produce puppies.

If I adopt him, Should I still have him fixed?

I've been posting like crazy ... now I need some moral support from my cat friend network.

My problem lies in two words ... catbox stink.

My husband is freaking out over the stink.

Currently we have the box in the back hall with windows, but its right next to the kitchen.

I want to move the boxes to the furthest corner in the basement .. but my husband hates the fact that there is no air quality and circulation.

We are in disagreement as to which is the best place.

I am in tears right now ... this may mean we will need to get rid of the cats if we can't find a solution.

Thoughts ... support ... Thanks

we're moving from california back home to virginia. we have 2 cats and a pug dog. the cats will be in one car and the dog in another. the cats absolutely HATE HATE HATE the car, screaming and howling the whole time. doggie loves the car, but drools a LOT and sometimes gets car sick. has anyone had experience driving their animals a VERY long distance before? does anyone have tips on how to accomplish this without getting the car trashed w/ animal stuff and keeping our sanity? does anyone have any suggestions on another way (not too expensive, the move itself costs a ton already!) to get our pets across 3,000 miles? i've heard of shipping them i guess its in a plane, but wouldn't that be traumatizing? do they make car sick stuff for animals? small portable litter boxes for kitties? is sedating them something that people do in this case? is that humane/safe? any information is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I live in a house on the first floor with my sister and this other lady, she lives in a separate room. She bought over a friend whom I wasnt even aware of, when she walk past my room, my dog ran after her and bite her on the leg. I think she startled him, he never bite anyone before. He's a small dog (Westie) and he has gotten all his shots, am I still responsible for her hospital bill?

I really want a Small, furry one! My parents have a chihuahua and I LOVE LOVE her, but I really want something different--like a maltese, shih tzu or Yorkie! I will have my own apartment and will be going to school, so I need something that isn't so "yappy." Any suggestions??

Just got two spotted green pufferfish, I put them in my tank last night and this morning I noticed that one fish has a sort of white spot on both it's eyes. the other one has it on one of his eyes..

I didn't notice it yesterday, but i didn't really have a good look. I'm assuming that if it is ick, they got it from the store tank because i've only had them for about 14 hours.

Btw, my tank is has fresh water from a day ago, not yet cycled but I already added conditioner to get rid of the chlorine...
