Poor diet or lack of exercise.

I don't know what you feed your cat, but if she's a strictly indoor cat, you should be sure to feed her special indoor food. Indoor cats get a lot less exercise and need special food to help keep them in shape. I recommend Natural Choice.

Ok, as you edited your post, I'll edit mine as well. Sorry to be rude before but some people on here are SOO dumb about this (my dog just suddenly had a puppy, what should I do?!?). It's just been getting to me how people can be so irresponsible and uninformed.

As she is an indoor cat, and the only one then perhaps she's just slowed down her activity some. I know that my 2 yr old cat has started to run around less and sleep more. It could be anything from a change in diet (eating more or eating a different kind of food) to something more serious (a tumor, some cats that aren't neutured can get cervical cancer, etc. and need hysterectomies-just like people). If you feel her tummy and it feels hard, or you can feel a lump, bring her to the vet ASAP. If it is just flabby, just assume she's decided to live it up and enjoy life.

THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS ILLNESS,, I know this post is old but if someone reads this like I did, you may want to know that if your cats stomach has gotten unusually big you should take it to the Veterinarian. There is a disease that is called Pyometra. The stomach will bulge also watch for a wet spot that they have cleaned up which may be fluid wherever they spend the most time usually where they sleep.. Cats that have not been spayed can get cysts and get engulfed with fluid and poison their system. IT CAN BE FATAL

could be the type of food that he/she is on.if u have it on a premium diet like nutro, science diet,wellness..etc.. the cat will eat less bc these food contain no by-products or fillers,so u cat will eat less bc the food fills them up more.also u can put them on a good weight management food like nutro indoor weigh management.u can usually purchase it at ur local pet store from 9+ dollars..considering the size that u are wanting.

Do you want the cat to have kittens? If not get the cat fixed. As for the weight - how much are you feeding the cat? Talk with your vet.

Any time your cat shows unusual behavior or starts to look strange, it's time for a visit to the vet. If this happened only over the past month, that should be a red flag. Go to the vet, please.

Is she fat all over or just in her belly? Has she been spayed? If she hasn't been spayed she's probably pregnant. If she has been spayed, she could be overweight or more seriously, retaining fluid, make an appointment with a veterinarian.
