If the bite area stays painful and hot even after a day or two, or gets WORSE, go in and get a shot. There's something specifically for cat bites, not a tetanus, something else. The bacteria in the cat's mouth can be very painful in our bodies.
If she sees red lines going away from the wound, that's an emergency visit because you're looking at a serious infection that needs heavy duty antibiotics.
Hopefully she washed the area with soap and water? Use hydrogen peroxide over the area too.

Your mom should go to the ER as soon as possible. Cats mouths are full of nasty bacteria that will make her sick even if the bite doesn't look that bad on the outside. She needs to be on some serious antibiotics and should probably have the bite flushed out as well.
Not getting it treated can result in bad infections and sometimes even nerve damage to the bite area.

A friend of mine got bitten by her friend's pet cat and ended up with a nasty infectioin. I guess they have bad bacteria in their slaliva that can cause infection. She didn't think it was bad at first but it got really puffy and painfull and if she didn't have surgery she could have lost her hand. I'm not trying to scare you just want to make sure you get it checked out if it broke the skin, then if she hasn't has a Tetanis shot in the past 10 years the doctor should give her one then.
