Just got two spotted green pufferfish, I put them in my tank last night and this morning I noticed that one fish has a sort of white spot on both it's eyes. the other one has it on one of his eyes..

I didn't notice it yesterday, but i didn't really have a good look. I'm assuming that if it is ick, they got it from the store tank because i've only had them for about 14 hours.

Btw, my tank is has fresh water from a day ago, not yet cycled but I already added conditioner to get rid of the chlorine...

The spots on the eyes look like ick, they are not cloudy.

I've added some deep sea salt, from what i've heard, they only need a little bit of it, so i only added a bit. Not enough to show any changes when I put my hydrometer in the water though..

If it's the eyes, it's not ick. It could be an eye fungus or popeye. BTW, puffers are brackish anyway.

Ick looks like salt sprinkled on them. By the way, how much salt is in your tank? Puffers won't make it long without some salt, and the salt will help clear up fungus, ick, and prevent a host of other things. Ick is always present in your tank, but becomes alive when a host is found.....like a stressed fish.

Get some detailed advise about adding salt from your reliable fish dealer, as it depends on what else you have in there as to the amount you can use.

Your tank and the fact that it has new water could not be the cause this quick so you can rule that out.

Good luck and happy fishing!.

ahem, you say it's freshwater only a day old????
Are you aware that a green spotted puffer is a brackish fish and needs salt??

Also, that is definately not ick if it's on the eyes, ick is displayed throughout the whole body and looks like little grains of salt put over them
my guess is that it's either from the waterconditions or it's cloudy eye

Please give as more info about your water parameters, salinity and such

Here is also some info about them

Edit*
Well they don't need just a little bit, but a certain amount to survive and thrive
it also states if you read through the websites at all, that you shouldn't use them when cycling your tank because they're very sensitive

no thats not ick.. ick would look like little salt sprinles over its body and its fins not in its eyes.. you might also see signs of scratching twitching, not eating, this would indicate your puffer is sick.. cloudy eyes and its body turning a darker color would indicate stress either from being in a new environment or maybe one is picking on the other, best bet is though because of the new environment, since your tank is not cycled yet i would make sure to keep your feeding to a minimal maybe feed the once every other day only what they can cansume in about 2 minutes. also adding about a tablespoon of rock salt per 10 gals of water would help the puffers! hope this helps

What kind of white spot? If it looks like a grain of salt, it's ich (or ick). If it's fuzzy and looks like a cotton ball, then it's fungus.
