My betta fish is acting weird. It won't eat the pellets and just smells them and backs away from them. the color of the fish is also turning faded. i am housing him in an average goldfish size bowl. also the fish has been just staring straight forward and staying at the top of the bowl. i even put a mirror up to the side of the bowl, which he should react to and he didn't react at all. hes just mopping around all day and i want to know whats wrong with him. please help.

What's wrong is that you have a fish that should be active, in a tiny, unfiltered, unheated bowl. Bettas are native to large rice paddies that stay around 80 degrees all day and all night, so the sharp temperature changes of a bowl are quite stressful. If the fish gets too cold, it will basically stop moving and not eat. The best way to fix that is to get your Betta a real tank (2.5 gallons, heater, filter, maybe even some nice live plants) for about $25. Don't forget to clean the tank twice a week or clean the bowl 2-3 times a week to prevent the buildup of toxic nitrogenous compounds. Email me if you have any questions.
