It may, depending on what caused it to detach in the first place. If there was something about your water chemistry, temperature, lighting, or something (critter) picking at it, it may not.

Just placing it on a rock may not do the trick either. If you have any amount of water current, it may blow the mushroom back off, and any fish ot inverts in the tank may do it as well (or continue to harass it if that's why it detached in the first place).

Do you have anything made of a soft mesh? Ladies hose, old aquarium net, etc.? If you do, you can place the mushroom on a rock (and put a tiny piece of sand under it's foot), then put the net over the mushroom and tie the mesh down with string, rubber bands, or nylon fishing line, but don't tie directly over the mushroom, just around the edges of the mesh. That will keep it in place. If you have a choice of different meshes, use the one that's the softest and will let the most light through (they need the light to produce food).
