She barks at everything from knocks at the door, doorbells, (on TV and not), and other dogs and people walking by our back door. We got her from the pound about 5 years ago and still can't break her of this habit. She just doesn't understand "no" and a little smack on the nose along with it. Any ideas? Not interested in shock collars or anyhting like that.

I asked a question referencing the prong collar, as my lab/staffy mix is bullheaded and will not catch on to walking nicely on any training leash. I received quite a few answers telling me to get my dog in obedience school and I need to train my dog. We have invested a lot in our dog. She has been to an obedience class and we have had an in home trainer. I am not offended at all by those comments because I know how diligent we are on a daily basis with her. Do people just assume that all dogs are easy? She is very very stubborn and has a mind of her own. Anyways, I am writing this to say don't assume people haven't trained their dogs if they need help with a training issue. Thanks! Have a lovely day!!!

I posted a question about what mix of breeds you think my dog is,and someone answered saying that she was a "grossly obese" mutt.I know she has weight issues and her vet said that she was "chubby," but I do not think that she is "grossly obese." She's 11 and spayed and has a heavy build anyway. She has no problems getting around, and pulls me down the street on walks and she has no breathing problems.I know that she's chubby, but "grossly obese?" Your opinions, please! If the majority says that she is,then I will put her on a diet!

I'm 15 and I live in a house with my mom, my sister (18), and my sisters friend who moved in with us (also 18). My mom knows someone who found five black lab puppies, got them neutured and de-wormed or whatever, and are now giving them away. If no one takes them they will be put to sleep.
So we might take one. Should we? Are we all too old to get a puppy because since dogs live for over 12 years does that mean my mom will be left alone with it after we all move out.

Is this a bad idea? Our house is kinda small but we have a nicely sized back yard. And we all love dogs and all want one.
But i'm not sure because shouldnt a family get a dog when the kids are really young? So that the whole family is with the dog until it gets old?

My new puppy (shes 8 wks) is a little brat. She is yorkie/chi and a mean little girl. If we touch her toys she goes nuts and growls, bites and attacks our hands. And trust me when I say she could not be better taken care of...someone is always with her, she gets fresh food 4 times daily, she is given baths, has a basket full of toys, always being loved on and talked to BUT when we pick her up 80% of the time she growls and then runs from us and hides (not in a scared way but kind of playing I guess) Is there any way I can break her of biting and make her more loving (wants to be held/loved) ...Or is this just a puppy??

My cat is about/almost 8 years old.
Recently, she's been seeking more attention than normal. She used to be EvilKitty, the one you'd want to avoid because she'd wiggle and scratch.
She's now crawling into laps, letting herself be petted and brushed and sleeping with me.
Could she just be getting old and lovely? Or is she behaving like this cause she managed to lose her collar and is appreciative - when she was E.K she always had a collar on.
I'm not complaining, I just find it intriguing.

I am positively in love with the beautiful colors guppies have. I have always wanted to breed them, but I am unsure if it would even be successful. I was told you have to have a few pairs of males and females in order to make them want to spawn. Or can I just put a male and female together and they have a xxx encounter almost immediatly?

I have a 11 1/2 month old lab/am staff mix and she just won't walk nicely on a leash! We have tried EVERYTHING. Regular collar, gentle leader face and the gentle leader harness, telling her heel and pulling her back to us, and just plain stopping when she forges ahead of us. We treat her when she does heel nicely and right after she swallows that treat she is off and pulling again. I really don't want to use one, but I don't know what else to do. What was your experience with pinch collar?

He was caught by the dog catcher weekend before last and was in the pound for 2 days until it opened on Monday. He was hoarse when I got him back and they told me he woofed himself into being hoarse over the weekend. I thought his woof was coming back, so I didnt think too much about it. Well he is now really hoarse and he is not eating his dog food and I think he must be sick. I put some warm beef broth in with his dog food, and he only ate about 4 bites and left the whole pan of food. What could be wrong with my dog and should we go see the vet?

I am so confused. My puppy is alone 3 days a week - for about 9 hours - with a dogwalker coming in to feed and play half way through. My vet told me he will have to relieve himself more than one time so make sure there is enough room in the crate for him to do that or just block off a small section with baby gates. I have the baby gates up and his crate in the space with the door open. I have tried to get him used to the crate (treats, blankets etc.) (he was fine in it with his littermates) but he goes crazy. He cries and whines. He did okay for the first two nights in his crate but now he is waking up every hour and whining and barking. We end up taking him out (we have to get some sleep too) and putting his bed on the end of ours where he sleeps soundly and lets us know if he has to go pottie. Should I take the crate out of my room and set my alarm to take him out during the night? Or is it okay to let him sleep on his bed at the foot of our bed?

Shasta was hiding on vet day like she always does. As I walked across the room, I kicked a mylar ball which landed at the edge of the chair she was hiding under. I laughed as I saw one black and white paw reach out from under the chair and swat the ball. She just couldn't resist! What did your cat do to make you laugh?

When my ex and I were together, I purchased a puppy (worth $800), but my housing situation did not work out, so we agreed to keep it at his place. I continued to pay for all the puppy's toys, food, and vet bills, as it was understood that it was mine. Now that we've broken up, he is absolutely refusing to even let me SEE the dog. I could take him to small claims, but from what I understand, I can only sue him for the money then. I'm very attached to my dog and would very much like to see it again. Any advice?

I have a 7 week old APBT who weighs about 6 pounds. My friend recently bought a APBT who is gigantic compared to mine and weighes about 10 - 12 pounds so basically is twice the size of my APBT. Comparing my dog to others she is small, she has had her shots and has been dewormed. I'm thinking about feeding her Diamond brand is this a good Idea? I am now feeding her bil-jac mixed in with purina beneful. I want to change food and find out a way to have her gain weight and look big like the other pup. Please give on advice about foods and ways to prepare that are healthy and will tack on weight fast.

Well my bettas spawned, which was not intentional by me. I only placed the male in my ladies tank for about an hour while I cleaned his out. I didn't have the heart to destroy the nest. I could never, ever do something so cruel. But now he has passed on, (death by jumping) and I'm left with parentless fry. How well do infursia(sp?) and tetra brand fry food work? I have limited funds but don't want to see them die. I already miss my male terribly and really want one of his babies. BBS and micro worms are out, as it would be considered to late to start a culture. Any ideas?

I have 2 kitties that I am going to get fixed soon. I know they should have those collar things to prevent them from messing with the incisions, however since there are 2 of them I am afraid they might mess with each other.

Has anyone had a problem with 2 kitties, in the same household, recovering after getting fixed? Should they be separated? Any info will help. Thanks!

My cat has ruined 3 pairs of earphones, and 2 phone chargers because she will not stop chewing on them. Also, she has 2 choices of litter boxes, yet still pees on my roommate's bed everytime she gets the chance.

My roommate is getting very angry with me, and I cant afford to buy her a new mattress pad and phone charger every week. What do i do?

My cats are regularly treated for fleas, using Frontline Plus. However, they still scratch quite a bit. I don't see any fleas on them, so I don't know if they have fleas or if they're just scratching for the fun of it.

When I first got my two kittens, one had roundworms, and he was treated. We used Drontal Cat. Drontal is a treatment for both roundworms and tapeworms.

After the male kitten was treated, the female started getting tapeworms. We used Drontal on her as well.

Both kittens were doing well for a while. They had followup treatments, and like I said, have been treated for fleas, too.

Just last night, I found some tapeworm segments on the male cat.

I'm so disheartened about this. It's just turning into a never-ending cycle. Their health is the most important thing to me, and I must be doing something wrong if I'm treating them for worms and fleas, and the worms keep coming back, and my cats keep scratching. I don't know what to do anymore.

Any advice would be appreciated.

My young female cat (about 18 months) keep mieowing at me and then crouching down to try and wee. she is weeing a tiny amount about every 10 minutes and never normally goes in the house she is fully house trained and always goes in the garden. She is still purring and playing a bit so does not seem in huge amounts of pain, although I am aware that cats do also purr when they are in pain. She has been spayed and had her innoculations about 9 months ago. Has anyone had a cat with these symptoms before? If so what is wrong with her?

We have two cats and we're moving them into a new home. We were originally going to do both over the weekend, but one of them had to go to the vet so we moved her first. The two aren't best pals, but they tolerate each other.

With the first one recovering from the vet, should we move the second one now to give her company in a strange environment or should we hold off on the second one until the weekend so the first one can heal in peace?

I noticed it awhile ago but last night it seemed bigger. When I touched it my cat didn't flinch or anything so I figured it didn't hurt him. My roommate said something about seeing a flea, could that be the problem?
