There is no such thing as a mini chihuahua, if someone describes one as such they're trying to sell you a runt at a higher cost. A healthy chihuahua will weigh about 4-6 pounds when grown, anything less will probably have health problems, however a bigger dog is generally no problem, just not show quality.
Back to your issue, neither of those dogs are particularly easy to train, if you want a super obedient dog you're better with a lab or sheperd type dog, possibly a spaniel.
However if you're willing to put in the time either will be a good pet.

All dogs have their own pros and cons. Also, how the pup is raised will have a lot to do with how they are when they get older. All I can tell you is from my own experience with these 2 breeds.
I have 3 mini-doxies, and I grew up in a house with 6 of them. They are very loyal dogs, but can be stubborn. Their long backs can give them problems when they age, so be careful or stairs and jumping off of furniture. Also, they can quickly and easlity gain weight. Our long haired doxie is much more mellow and friendlier than the 2 short hairs, which is said to be a trait of the long haired doxies.
As for chihuahuas, my sister-in-law has one. He is now 9. He has always been grumpy with strangers, but is sweet when he gets to know you. But, he is extremely fragile. When he was a pup, he broke both front legs by jumping off the couch. Also, he currently has a heart murmur.
But, my exposure to both seems that they are pretty similar in temperment. Whichever you decide, make sure to socialize it with other animals, children and people when they are young. This will help limit problems in the future. Good Luck!

We have a mini daschund, and she has the best temperament. We have friends who have chihuahuas and one friends is really mean, and the other friend isn't and is very sweet. The one whose chihuahuas are mean said the vet told her not to let the dog sit with you a lot because they are very territorial causing biting. The friend who has the sweet chihuahua doesn't let her sit in her lap a lot, and she also works. So there maybe something to it.

first, there is NO such thing as a "mini chihuahua" ("teacup, toy, pocketbook, ultra, babydoll or any other kind of chihuahua (or other toy breed) are simply made up words by millers and bad breeders to charge extra) chihauahus come in 2 types, long coat and short coat and by breed standard should be between 2 and 6 lbs full grown.
secondly...easy to train? i dont think either as truly easy to train breeds, chihuahuas can be headstrng and dominant, and doxies have an independant terrier like personality so youd have your work cut out with either, though the doxie is usually the "easier" dog when it comes to basic obedience.
most toy breeds can be "difficult" wihtout the right trainign and socilization.
*EDIT TO ADD*
http://www.magicmanormicros.com/chigirls...
is a PUPPY MILL! they charge extreem amounts for badly bred "teacup" puppies (badly bred runt to runt often sickly do NOT support these people!)
http://www.chihuahua.com/searchresult-g_...
freely advertises and supports puppymillers and bad breeders, please dont support these people either.
the best way to find a dog is to first try you local shelter
petfinder.com
or if you want a purbred puppy go through the breed club...
for dacshunds look for the mini dachshund club of america, for chihuahuas the chihuahua club of america, they can put you intouch with GOOD breeders who wont rip you off!

I would probably go with a ShiTzu for non yappy, but the may need a little more exercise than once a day. Otherwise a Chihuahua. I am really a fan of the Spaniel family, I would recommend a King Charles Cavalier. Hope this helped!

Daschunds are lovely - but they are VERY stubborn and hard to train... I had two for years and the most we ever managed with them was housetraining - any other training was strictly ignored LOL
The other thing to remember with Daschunds is that they are very prone to back problems, and should not be allowed to jump up or climb stairs, which can be a problem as they tend to try to do these things ;-(

I have a chihuahua ...not a mini one... and she housetrained fairly easily, she even uses a litter box because where we live it's too cold for such a little dog to go outside in the snow to do it's buissness. I have seen mini-chihuahuas and they are sooo cute, they look like mocha -my dog- did when she was a puppy. They love to cuddle and if you train them right as we have, they wont bark at all like most chihuahuas do. here's a site about chihuahua that I though you might be interessted in.... :D Good luck in your "parenthood"

If you're not sure which breed will suit you, have a look at the breed profile, they have very different personalities and behaviours as they were bred for very different things plus they can suffer from different health problems, one for the daxies is back problems and I have been told not to allow a daxie to climb up or down stairs or jump up or off couches as they can damage their backs. lus there is only one size of Chihuahua and that's toy, any smaller or other names to discribe it and you're being conned and will likely end up with a sickly pup.
Have a look at this article
http://dogs.about.com/cs/breedprofiles/a/choosing_a_dog.htm
And about the breeds
Daschound

Chihuahua

I have to say I personally like the daschound myself, there's something about their personality.
Just make sure you get a dog from a responsible breeder, there are too many back yard breeders and puppy mills churning out ill-tempered and sickly puppies that may seem ok but can suffer from terrible problems in the near future.
Although these breeds are small poor breeding can cause them to be overly nervous or aggressive (I've been biten by a small dog and it does hurt) or have behaviour problems.
Also check out shelters as the majority of dogs there are purebred and are there for no fault of their own like the owners moving, haven't the time or money to look after them and many do not have problems at all. A good rescue will match you with the right dog and there are also purebred rescues that get in puppies too so;

Although it may seem cheaper to get a pupper from the ads it could cause you hundreds of pounds/dollars of money from being back and forth to vets and heartache with training and going to behaviourest although not all suffer like this, they have a much higher chance that they'll have problems.
Please remember that even if a dog is KC registered or anything registered doesn't mean the breeder is responsible, all you have to do is sent in some papers and pay a fee without any check up with how you breed the dogs. Or they'll fake the papers, plus they never take you to where they breed them in and always either has a friends house or meets you halfway.

Funny u say this cause i just got a mini daschund, and they love to be the center of attention, mini d's are the hardest dog to train when it comes to potty time. What i did was went to a store a bought a book it helps so much. They also love to have something to chew on and love to be played wit. They also love to follow ppl, and they will usually pick one member of the family to be it's owner, feed it, care for it, and u will win him over, when u get a dog. they r so adroable and loveable, i recommend u get something u have time for. These puppies, take lots of time to train, be patient though and it will turn out sucsessful.
