Hi Lorraine! My Yorkie used to do it a lot when he was curious or if he was really concentrating on a something he had seen or heard. My Cavalier has never done it though...she is too lazy, lol. Whatever the reason is though it's still soooo cute. Take care, Smudge (Tracy) xx

When a dog smells something like another "critter" he will lift one paw and sniff the air. We call that "pointing". Some dogs can be trained to do this to show hunters where their game is.

he is probably worried or scared, or sometimes dogs just do it for no reason. my dog sometimes runs with one of her back legs up. or when she feels guilty about something that she did which she knows she shouldn't have done she will bring her front paw up and put her tail between her hind legs.
Hope this helps!!! :)

My male dachshund does this all the time. He'll go outside and stop and look at me with one paw up. He does it in the house too...he'll just stand there looking at me, wagging his tail, with one of his front paws up. I think it's adorable and cracks me up.

if he is a hound, he is pointing. Some dogs point cuz they were trained to hunt. And when they smell something, such as a bird, they are to stop and point in the direction it is. Nothing serious, just instinct. lol

My dog does this when she's nervous or scared. He probably doesn't want to be outside.
