I posted a question about what mix of breeds you think my dog is,and someone answered saying that she was a "grossly obese" mutt.I know she has weight issues and her vet said that she was "chubby," but I do not think that she is "grossly obese." She's 11 and spayed and has a heavy build anyway. She has no problems getting around, and pulls me down the street on walks and she has no breathing problems.I know that she's chubby, but "grossly obese?" Your opinions, please! If the majority says that she is,then I will put her on a diet!

I can feel her ribs.Yes,there is a layer of fat,but I can feel them quite easily.I can feel her back bone, too. She has very loose skin, which I think makes her look heavier, and they say that the camera adds 10 lbs.,LOL! I think that she does need to lose a few pounds, but I still don't think she's grossly obese!! Of course, she's my baby,so I'm going to disagree!! =0)

She is a little chunky but far from grossly obese. As long as she gets plenty of exercise and has no breathing issues then she will be fine. I would cut back on the treats or find something healthier for her because of her tendency to put on weight. If you are that concerned just change her food to weight management instead of adult.
She is a cutie!

she is not grossly obese. If anything she may have a wide rib cage and that is due to her breeding. Big boned dogs are common just as humans can be big boned. Thats why the health departments give weight ranges. What is good weight for me won't necessarily be good for you or anyone else. As long as she is healthy and has no respiratory or motion issues there is no need to restrict her diet. As dogs get older they do tend to hold weight more so since she is a senior I would recommend senior formula food and maybe reduce the amount by 1/4 just to see if it makes a difference. As long as you can feel her ribs she is fine.

she is grossly obese.. can you feel her ribs at all? I bet not. Even with a thick dog at a healthy weight, you can feel the ribs. There is also no tuck up to her belly at all. For her height, she should probably be about 40-50 pounds. That is ALOT of extra weight for a dog to be carrying.. its the equivelant of you carrying an extra 100-150 pounds!

The last pic you posted of a "grossly obese dog" is photoshopped.

Edited to add: I dont know why people think a fat "well fed" animal is happier. Extra weight is hard on the joints and organs. Fatty tissues will develop around organs, the same as they do with people. Joints deteriorate as a dog gets older, and arthritis develops.. its a lot harder when there's extra weight putting stress on the joints.

Even if you dont think she's obese. you are aware that she is overweight. Put her on a diet to prolong her life, and to make her quality of live easier as she enters her senoir years. She's only 11, she could easliy live another 7-8 years. It will be alot easier on her if she is at an ideal weight.

She's chubby but if she's happy who cares if shes overweight? She is NOT grossly obese.....If she has no health issues let her live out the rest of her life being happy. Truthfully she doesn't look all that "chubby" to me. She's a cutie...

She's what I like to call "well padded". I don't know of any older dog that isn't a bit chunky. My dog is 14 and she has a similar body type as yours. I'm not putting her on a diet because she deserves to enjoy her life. Your dog sounds like a perfectly happy, healthy dog. Your vet would have told you if he thought she has a weight issue. So, relax, and go play with your dog.

she is way too big for a dog of that height/build, even if she is "heavily built" ... if a dog is heavily built they should still look slender on their frame, your dog is far past "chubby" but i wouldnt call her "grossly obese" but she probably will be if she isnt on a stricter diet, and more exercise is advisable...

could tremble whilst touched could be risky could have nippy little enamel could in wonderful condition into each and each sweater could in wonderful condition right into a handbag could have dyed fur could belong to little ladies with too plenty money and too little intellegence--and whose "Daddy" will purchase them a clean one whilst their canines dies at a untimely age (observed that on a question as quickly as).
