My sis in law says it's something to do with mating. The nerves there are sensitive so that when a male goes to mount the female the tail goes up.
I have no idea if that's true or not :D

That is SUCH a good question! And, unfortunately, I don't have an answer for it... but I can speculate. My husband and I find it hilarious how our cat does that whenever we're giving her a good scratching. It seems that they just like the way it feels and stick their butt up to intensify the scratching on their lower back... I can't think of any other reason for it.

a chum of mines cat does this constantly has, it appears that evidently like its in soreness and crawls sometime on its abdomen very almost, the only component we are able to determine is its in warmth. yet doesnt look suffering

cats are pretty sensitive, they just love tha way it feels, theres no like REAL answer for it i think but everyone knows that they love it, also tha soft fer behind their ears they love like place to be scratched too and also their chins
