My labradoodle has the best temperment ever. He got out of the car at the beach with my parents. A moment later an Akita had charged at him and attacked him. My dad tried to hold the Akita so it could do my dog no further damage. The owners of the attacking dog yelled at my dad saying he was strangling the dog. My mum pointed out that the dog had bitten our dog. The man shrugged and said "dog's will be dog's". The man also stated his dog would attack ALL other dogs. When he took his dog he said quite clearly "good boy". My parents took my dog to the vets and was examed. He had suffered several puncture wounds and a cut across his inner thigh, the Akita had also punctured part of the muscle. My dog just turned 10 months yesterday, the day of the attack. What I want to know is why on earth did the man praise the dog?? I cried most of last night, the very thought of my puppy being harmed in anyway made me feel physically sick! He was supposed to be going to his dog training today!!

Okay my roommate has a cat. I got a cat they're both indoor cats we live on the second floor of an apt. They're only able to go out on the balcony. Then my roommate got a dog from the shelter. All of sudden we have fleas. Never seen them on my cat before. My roommates cat was previously treated for fleas when she got her. The dog was treated at the shelter. The fleas were mostly on my cat a domestic long-hair. How the hell did we get fleas? I'm guess the damn dog brought them in with him from walking. I'm freaking out, I have a flea collar, which I don't thinks work at all. I have flea spray for the cat and the topical monthly solution. I'm afraid they won't go away. SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found out about a Bull Mastiff that was abandoned at a nearby vet's office. The girlfriend of my friend's brother took him to the vet to get his shots. When they called the girl to pick him up she wouldn't answer the phone. Hondo has been at the vet's office for two weeks (at $13 per day). My friend told me about Hondo since she knew we are wanting a Masiff. My boyfriend and I went to the vet today to see Hondo and maybe bring him home. We were told that Hondo came in the office to get his rabies shot and we'd be paying for that. We'd also have to pay for some other shot they gave him plus the 2 weeks worth of boarding The total came to $175. Supposedly, Hondo will be put to sleep very soon unless he gets a new home. Should we really have to pay someone elses bill? Can't they go after her for that money? Especially when they just want to get rid of the dog and we were willing to take him off their hands?

Was sad to discover today that Alex the African Grey Parrot has died.

Because of him and the research of Dr. Irene Pepperberg, many things have been uncovered about the intelligence of these beautiful animals and how much we have underestimated them. I always enjoyed reading their research as well as the playful and cheeky antics of Alex.

Here's the notice on their website:
"We are deeply saddened to announce Alex died this morning of unknown causes. We will have a formal press release on Monday when we know the cause of death.

He was absolutely fine yesterday and he was found dead this morning.

Dr. Pepperberg will take the weekend to mourn his death.

We hope to have more information on Monday

We miss him so much.

Thank you,

Arlene Levin-Rowe - Pepperberg Lab Manager
and the Pepperberg Lab Staff"

Many people are going to miss you, Alex! Fly free.

I've had my two cats for 4.5 (female) and 5 (male)years. Both were purchased from the human society and both were spayed/neutered when I purchased them. They occasionally play outside when we are with, but one night my female cat escaped us and was out for 2-3 hours w/out us. Tonight we noticed her nipples are looking enlarged. To me, they just look kind of large, to my husband he says he thinks they looks a little pink. How pink should they be? Is it possible she's pregnant even though she was supposed to have been spayed? Can it not take?

I tried Innova wet food because my chihuahua doesn't like to eat dry all day, but it's a bit too mushy (I thought it would be chunkier). So I'd prefer she just stick with dry food in general.

I was wondering about the size of the dog food, though. Sometimes I wonder if kibble is a bit too hard, though I know it helps clean the teeth. What does Innova dog food look like, and do you think it's ok for a chihuahua's tiny teeth?

Thanks : )

I adopted Kalo, (my german shepherd) a month ago. Sence then I took him to the vet. He had worms. He got treated. The problem is he is still skinny. The vet said he could not find a medical reason. He eats like a horse, but not gaining wight. I feed him dog food with no fillers, just like my vet told me. I've seen onter german shepherds, they are heavier then him. Hes not extremely skinny, just thin. What can I do to make him heavier? He is very active.

I have taken in 2 dogs. They are both female and both pugs. They have been together forever but they have been really depressed since I've brought them home. They don't want to eat, they don't want to play, they only want to lay around and sleep. How long until they are acting normal? I know they miss their family. Do they make doggie paxil??? (J/K)

Why do they need to walk on the left? When I take him on his daily walks we get on this narrow sidewalk and theres no way around it. If I make him go on my left he'll be right next to the cars. He's really good about not pulling and everything but I worry when he gets so close to cars so I pull him to my right.

hi

My cat is 18years old and in the past 2months or so has started a steady decline.
She used to be quite, fat and fluffy. She is now more vocal, but has not got any lazier. She still atempts high jumps and things. But struggles down stairs.
She doesnt seem to extend her back legs fully. and her fur is slightly greasier and more matted. But she does not seem to be in any pain that i know of.

I want to know if i should have her put down or let her go naturally?

She seems just as active and not avoiding things she used to do like i would expect, she only does them slower.

However, she is eating nearly 3-4 times what she used to and she is using the litter tray more than 4 times a day. It smells awful! even though she is eating the same as a younger cat. She drinks loads of water and goes out regularly. and her stools sometimes have blood in them, more often than not, and she does not sit down fully after going

overall she seems happy tho

questions n suggestions?

I feed my dogs food that I prepare for them or that is people food because I feel it's safer and healthier for them, especially since lately dogfood has had poisons in it that have killed numerous pets.
So how about we all share tips here?
I keep a bowl of dry cherrios ( cereal) down for my two dogs at all times so that they can snack and then for thier dinner they get cooked beef, chicken, vegtables and the like.

When I adopted my cat 6 months ago, she was diagnosed with bartonella. She had and still has pretty bad gingevitis in the back of her mouth. When she was diagnosed, she was on a 3 week course of antibiotics; however, I don't think it ever really cleared up. I was told I had to wait 6 months to test her again for it. In that 6 month period, I moved and took her to a new vet this week for testing. This vet had never heard of bartonella. That's weird, right? I should be skeptical of this vet if she didn't know what bartonella is?

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew what the normal medical response was in cases like this where the first 3 week round of antibiotics didn't work? Should I expect another 3 weeks of antibiotics or should I plan for something else? I haven't had a lot of luck searching this on the internet.

Also, in general, what is normally done about cat gingevitis? This vet suggested removing all of my cat's teeth? That seems incredibly extreme to me.
Thanks!

My shiba inu had kennel cough and today we visited the vet and he gave him some pills which he doesn't want at all. We tried to feed him it smush with apple sauce. He only ate a half.

What are some ways you can make your puppy eat medicine/pill? We also tried doing cheese with small portions of the pill but he's smart and spit it out.
