Why doesn't your friend just ask the vet when they go to have her ultrasound/xray?

Most vets don't like to,but if they do,they must be sure to use a killed vaccine, because a modified live vaccine can cause the unborn puppies to die or be born with defects.I know my vet will NOT vaccinate for rabies when a dog is pregnant. How old is the dog if it hasn't had it's adult shots? If it's under a year, then you've got a puppy having puppies! Yet ANOTHER reason to SPAY and NEUTER before the first heat!

NO.. It's too dangerous for the pups to have mom vaccinated now.. This should have been done far before she was bred.. This is part of planning a litter.. You make sure that she is up to date on her vaccinations.. You do your health testing.. You find the proper male.. you learn about pregnancy and food, whelping and caring for puppies.. Real breeders plan and know ...
How old is this dog that has NOT yet had her adult shots?? If she isn't properly caring for her adult dog prior to having gotten her pregnant.. How is it she figures she is going to be able to properly care for mom and the litter ??? Plan and do things right.. This is why there are so many sick and dying puppies...

My dog was an adult (3 yrs old) when I bred her. When she went into heat, she was due to have her boosters in about 2 months. I spoke to my vet & she had her booster shots when she was 35 days pregnant. She is a toy poodle & had 4 healthy puppies & no problems at all. None of them were malformed, had any diseases or long term problems from the vaccines. Get with her vet & she should be able to get her vaccines at a safe time & (according to several vets in my area) will give the pups some protection from parvo & distemper. Then after the pups are 8 weeks old & in good homes, get mom spayed.

No, absolutely not!!! It will damage her pups. They can become deformed, the males may not get testicles. There are all kinds of awful things that can happen if she gets vaccinated while pregnant. Ask your Vet, I am sure you will get the same answer. It's too bad the dog wasn't kept up to date on vaccinations like it should have been. If she hasn't had her adult vaccinations yet, how old is this poor dog? Is she still basically a puppy herself?

NO! Rescue just lost a whole litter from a pupymill rescue ***** that came in pregnant, but the shelter managing the seizure didn't recognize it, and vaccinated her. When the pups are born, they will need a special vaccination protcol since the maternal antibodies will not be as effective as they would have been if the breder had been responsible and properly vaccinated the ***** before she was bred.

Never vaccinate a pregnant dog. And NEVER breed a dog who has not first been cleared by the vet.

I think she should discuss this with a vet.. it would have been better if the dog had its shots before she got pregnant to assure she has an immunity to pass on to her unborn pups.
Even better yet, she should have been spayed.

No. Because she will transfer the antibodies to her offspring. Like parvo. Unfortunately, the puppies will be suseptible to the diseases that their mother should have been vaccinated for. Contact your vet immediately.
