Because some people should NEVER have pets!!
He is obviously a very sick man! You should have reported the incident to your local council.

1) It sounds like your dog will make a full recovery. Your puppy will likely react like any other dog and move on from this frightening experience. Somehow dogs were created so they do not hold a grudge or fear(not often) from a dog fight. This seems to be a part of being a dog it seems.
2) We have owned several Akitas. The breed is often very animal aggressive. It is the rare Akita that can socialize with other dogs without a fight breaking out, regardless of the breeding or the raising of the animal.
3) This complete jerk should know that this breed can not be let loose to roam around other animals. We have been clear with everyone about the Akita breed A) Loving to the family B) Great watchdog C) Not for a beginner, too powerful and animal aggressive D) Not for a neighborhood, they will get out and kill a cat or dog without warning. E) Needs a fenced yard and better on a larger property measured in acres that they can claim as their own.

I am the owner of a purebred American Staffordshire Terrier. Both parents have a LOT of initials before and after their name, and daddy has the distinctive honor of having passed a Shutzhund test. Both parents were tested for ataxia, heart defects, hips and elbows. Puppy came with a a 7 page contract and cost me $600. My "designer dog" is a Golden-something (Samoyed I think) that I picked up from the shelter for $200. Nice dog, not all there in the brains department and sheds like a MOFO year ROUND. We got her because her temperament complimented the Amstaff we had at the time. From the third day we brought her home there was a question about her hips. She doesn't show any issues right now but we have her hips looked at every year when she goes in for her shots. She's a hybrid that was created on accident - but like all the overpriced designer dogs out there - without a purpose. Two women where I work got a couple of I-don't-remember-whats, Jack Russel and a poodle or something. People who aren't familiar with dogs see "Yorkipoo" and think it's a breed. They are advertised as a breed with false standards similar to what an actual breed would be. Some people just don't know any darned better. My FIL wanted a Puggle. I was putting on the gloves when he realized the adults are as ugly as sin. I can appreciate your disdainful tone of your questions. You are inviting people who believe the things you spouted off to prove you wrong. If anyone here would find this entertaining - there was a short lived pet store in our mall that had puppies. I'm still cringing that they were selling "Pit Bulls" (not APBT, "Pit Bull") and huskies and "designer" dogs. My husband saw a Husky - very cute (as puppies are wont to be) for $1600. He said something about the puppy and I said VERY loudly that we will NEVER buy a dog from a pet store, we'll save money and go to a breeder! Dog Lover: My dogs are cute, I wouldn't want a dog that I thought was ugly (which is why I don't want a boxer) and everyone has their own vision of Canine beauty. Dogs will have health problems - the point is that unscrupulous breeders are tossing together two intact purebreds, calling them "hybrid vigorous" and all kinds of other ridiculous things without any health tests, etc. You're another individual that just didn't know that a Goldendoodle is a mixed breed dog. I don't know how much you paid (that mix goes for around $1200 out my way) but you could have gotten a Golden Retriever mix for MAX $400 from a shelter.

This world is full of very, very sick people. It is a shame that you didn't get the guy's information. License plate number or something by which to trace him. You can sue for these things, and the guy deserves a lesson in life.
It could have simply been that the guy was just saying "Good Boy", because that is a habitual thing we say to calm our pets, so it may not have actually been that he was praising the dog, but from what you've said, the guy is a real punk, and I'd love to see his Akita tear his neck out some day.
They will turn on their owners sometimes, like pits, rotts, sheps, and various others. He deserves a nice little "love-nip" on his head. I hope your dog will heal well, and that it isn't overly traumatized. A lesson for all, I suppose. That guy will get his some day, the arrogant prick.

Oh my god! I cannot believe some people!!! Your poor puppy.
Make sure you keep socialising your dog so it doesn't become nervous after this event. Encourage your dog to be confident and don't you worry that this will happen again. Not everyone is a complete and utter jerk when it comes to controlling their dog.
I'm sure everyone aggrees with me when I say... some people just shouldn't be aloud to keep animals.
Akita's are quite often known to be vicious but I have met a few that are absolutely fine. In the end it all depends on the owner. A puppy is like a child. You have to teach them manners and give them rules.
Any chance of finding out who this person is who owns the Akita.... I'd report him and say that he owns a vicious dog who attacked your dog and the owner found it amusing and refused to take control of his dog.
I'd be mortified if my dog attacked other dogs.... Cos you know what will happen next don't you.... it's bound to attack a child who might get in the way.
What's the owner going to do then?? Shrug and laugh??

What a terrible situation. Though he could have been trying to calm his dog down, since all the shouting to stop could put the dog on edge and inadvertently egg him on and a softer tone could calm him down, it really sounds like the akita's owner is a huge jerk. Maybe dogs will be dogs but the man should have had better control over his. If his dog would attack all other dogs, his dog is a menace and should be on a leash. Is there no leash law on the beach? I'm not sure what you can do now beyond learning from this lesson. As responsible as you may be, there's no guarantee that others will be as mindful. Dogs will be dogs and jerks will be jerks, so keeping your dog on a leash in public and out of situations like this will help prevent the worst part of dogs being dogs.

These people were complete idiots and totally irresponsible dog owners and it makes me so angry, why do these people not keep their dogs on a lead especially when it is a dog like an Akita and to react in the way that they did makes you wonder if they actually have any brain cells at all. This has really hit a nerve with me because I have also experienced an incident like this and the owner off the dog did not have the dog on a lead, and it was out of control and extremely aggressive as was the owner who was just about able to string a sentence together because he was so thick!!!!
I too cried because I was so upset, both my dogs were on the leads at the time, this guys dog attacked one of my dogs. I never ever let my dogs of the lead as I have 2 English Bull Terriers as I am a responsible dog owner and my dogs are under control. Fortunately both of my dogs have wonderful temperaments. It's people like these that did not have their dog on a lead and under control that give dog owners a bad name. OMG it really winds me up!!!!
What an earth do they expect your father to do just let the dog continue to attack your dog? Your poor dog, it's so unfair and they have just walked away scot free and will no doubt it will happen again, because they are so retarded next time it might be a worse scenario and they will be the one's crying when they have to have thier darling Akita put down because it's killed another dog.
Sorry if I ranted it just makes me mad!

Your dog has been attacked by a dangerous dog owned by an idiot. Dogs will be dogs but owners are there to control them
Section 3 of the 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act created a new offence of being an owner of a dog of any type or breed which is dangerously out of control in a public place or a non-public place in which it is not permitted to be.
What next - a child.
I hope your puppy has a swift recovery.

Unfortunately not all dog owners are as responsible as yourself. The owner of the Akita belongs to a dog owning underclass that owns the dog for some kind of materialistic or sadistic prowess. The dog is obviously trained to attack other dogs and the owner is proud of this and encourages the dog to behave in this manner. Unfortunately the dog will some day meet a violent end itself either at its owner's hands or by the actions of another fight trained dog when the owner gets drunk and bets the poor dogs life away.
Not all Akita owners are as irresponsible but one should remember that they are war dogs and are bred to kill so avoid them at all costs.
As for your labradoodle the best thing is to socialise him with as many good dogs as possible while he is still young and hopefully he will remain a good well balanced pet.

I am so sorry to hear your Labradoodle was attacked, the owner called there dog a good boy because they are a total moron thats why, my youngest dog was attacked last year by a long legged Staffie and the owner walked on leaving my dog bleeding and when i shouted at her to do something, she just called out to her dog come on goodboy whats that horrid dog doing to you, im sorry to say i lost it, i had to get my husband to come and get me as i couldn't get my poor dog home. Luckily it was superficial but i cannot believe some owners they seem to think its a dog thing. I hope your dog is ok now.

Sorry to hear about your puppy. As your dog is still quite young and learning about the world around her this could have a very bad phycolocical effect on your pet. It is very important that you now make sure that you socialise her with other well mannered dogs asap, or you to could end up with a dog that attacks others as well.
