Bengal Rescue. You might not get a kitten, but you can get pure breeds for under $100. Bengals are really friendly and social cats. They are loyal. No matter what age, if the cat feels good with you, s/he will adopt your friendship. Anyways, I just adopted a kitten bengal and the terrible twos are a lot of work :-) Breeders sometimes put retired cats for sale (inexpensive and relatively young) http://www.bengalcat.com/rescue.aspx

Google retired bengals or rescue bengals

for one of the earlier lines.. I think the earliest line you can own is an L3 without a special wildlife permit, but for anything even close to the original cross you are talking about a major price tag.. HOWEVER, these hybrids tend to have more aggressive behaviors to those they dislike than other cats, both males and females mark their territory.. and there is very little you can do to stop the behavior.. , and they are a bit less tame than normal domesticated cats... so, finding the later lines which still have the behavior traits is not so hard ... I found my last one as a stray.. (my roomate sold her while I was at work... I was ticked)...

Now, someone already mentioned the medical care issue, which is a must.. cats have a range of illnesses that can be lethal.. but also with these wild cat mixes, remember that you are going to be working against nature, so add in the price to replace things like clothes (as my roomate found out early, if the cat doesn't like you it destroys your clothes.. the smell will never come out).. they are often runners.. so, when the door is open you will have to be quick or you will be chasing it down.. (where you then have the chance of really high medical bills if it is hit by a car).. if they get out and hurt someone elses animals.. such as rabbits or the like which are sometimes kept outside in cages.. (they an find a way to kill through a cage) you may have to face a bill from the owners..

Do alot of research, these cats are not cheap to own.. and honestly, if you find one for a cheap price up front, it's most likely not bred well... in which case you once again deal with higher med. bills.. These cats cost so much because of the cost of caring for the actual wild cats, on top of the cost for the permit to own wildcats.. , In order to have kittens that are available, the breeder has to have at LEAST 3 successful generations of kittens from the original cross.. these cannot legally be sold to anyone without the same wildlife permit.. so, they have alot of cats generally..

You could probably find them at an animal shelter if you have a good eye. I don't know where you are, but check your local pet shop, newspaper ads and Yahoo Pets, where you can enter your zip code.

Please keep in mind when you get a pet, you need to be able to give it good medical care --- once a year checkup and vaccinations and money set aside for emergency care. You also want to give them good quality food. You should keep them indoors(kitty litter expenses)....No matter what kind of pet you get, it deserves your effort to give it the "best" stuff so it will be healthy and happy.
