My boyfriends parents have a 6 year old Pom. with just absolutly terrbile breath. The problem with these dog treats ment for breath is that he (the dog) doesnt like them. This dog doesnt like any kind of hard treats, only soft like beggin' strips, things on that line. I know that with dogs, even chewing on rawhide helps a little bit, but he doesnt like those kind of things. Any ideas??

She has had urine cultures & x-rays. It has yet to be determined origin of the disease. I hope feline infections don't hurt as bad as humans. Has anyone gone thru this with their little kitty?

I handfed my lovebird and now he's biting me whenever I take him out of the cage, so much so, that I don't take him out as often. How do I get him to stop biting, it kinda hurts!

My goldfish had a bad case of finrot that very quickly made its way to the base of the fish's fin. However, I put melafix in the water and treated with Maracin-TC. This was about 11 days ago, and the fish is still alive. However, it sits at the top a lot, as though that's its main source of air. (No, it isn't dead. :-P) (Also, I'm sure the tank is getting enough oxygen.) So, a few questions:

1) The fin hasn't repaired itself yet, but I hear it is common for them to remain split if the infection reaches the base. Is this okay and, if not, what should I do?

2) Is my fish still sick/moribund? Is there anything I can do to help it?

3) How should I go about reintroducing it to the tank?

Any help is very much appreciated! Thank you all for reading. :-)

Everytime I walk my dog, he stops on every tree/post/bush to pee. Sometime I tell him "NO" and he doesn't do it but a lot of time he does it.

my cat is Enre, about 3 yrs old, neutered, has all shots, history of upper respiratory infection (the viral type), shares his home with his two humans and two younger cats (not related to him, but they're brother & sister). not allowed outside, hasn't escaped recently. long-ish fluffy white hair (he looks like a turkish van), very large, somewhat overweight. usually VERY clean.

recently he has developed a sore on his chin. it's about the size of a dime (half his chin), all raw and blotchy red, but not hairless. it doesn't look like it's oozing, but a black "crust" keeps forming in the fur around and on it. I've seen him gingerly scratch it a few times, but not excessively. it seemed to just appear there about a week or so ago, hasn't gotten any better or worse. he's behaving normally. the past few days he's had a dirty nose & eyes (has black 'goobers' on them, kinda like on his chin).

what could it be?
i've tried to put antibiotic ointment on it, but he licks it off immediately!

Our previous dogs have been named after alcohol, Bud, and Brandy. And my husband wants this one named after alcohol too.
The puppy we are going to get was conceived on St. Patrick's Day, so the man giving us the puppy wants the name to be Irish. The puppy is a girl.

I'm getting a Bull Terrier some time this year and I don't know if I should get a white one or a tri-colored one.
I need to buy the one that looks the most protective and tough.
If you think the white one looks tougher then say white (and tell me WHY!)
If you think the tri one loooks meaner just say tri (and tell me why!) thanks!

WHITE! http://petcaretips.net/bull_terrier.jpg

TRI-COLORED! http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/02/images/060215_westminster_big.jpg

I don't have any money to buy shampoo at the moment. I wanted to give my dog a bath today. She got paint on her fur and also was doggong in the mud. What ingredients around the house can i wash her with. Something not harsh and that has great benefits, possibly.

my little 8 mo. old male maltese shows signs of intelligence...he brings every toy he has into whatever room i'm working in and lays there a plays with his toys (i think that's pretty cute and smart). however, he seems extremely dense about aspects of training such as coming, "no," and other commands. i reward him with little treats consistently for all favorable behaviors, but have never had a dog so frustratingly difficult to train! i've owned a lot of other small and large dogs in my life. i know how to train, using reinforcement, etc. any feedback on the intelligence level of this breed? i've read the "trainability is the #1 test of intelligence." if that's the case, he's mentally challenged, but he has these other "smart" traits. what do you think (maltese breeders and trainers would be appreciated for comments).

I purchased a basic aquarium last week for my two new coldwater black moors. The tank is a FRF 440 with a pressurised filter box and 12v filter pump. I ran the filter on the tank for about 4 days before adding the fish. They have only been in there for about 4 days now, but the water seems to be going very cloudy very quickly. I did try and replace a little of the water as advised in the brochure, but am conscious of the chlorine values in tap water etc. What could be causing the clouding of the water so quickly, and what can I do to stop it happening?

I have not been feeding them more than once per day (and not loads at that), so dont think its to do with the food.

Any ideas would be welcome, before I trapse back to the shop for advice.

Now he is saying that we are going to fly bc it would be much easier. But I am worried about my cats. It is hot and I read that they just throw the animals around. I am so confused on what to do. WIll someone please advice me, I would appreciate it. My cats are HUGE babies and momma(me) babies at that!

I just put my cat down today due to renal failure that he has been battling for the last 5 months. I took him off the fluids a week and a half ago so he could have some time without having to go to the vet. He HATED treatment, and I just couldn't put him through it anymore. He was only 5 years old. I stayed with him the whole time. He was curled up with my other cat, his buddy, before we left. It was like they knew. He cried when I had to put him in the carrier. They had to sedate him first due to his aggressive nature. He freaked out when they put the needle in and he only got 2/3 of it. It was enough to make him gag and throw up. I gave him a bunch of ham before we left as his last treat. He loved ham but he threw it up, and it hurt to see him struggle to try and stand up. My mom got the tech and he came in and took Patches out of the carrier and laid him on the towel. I just kept kissing and petting him the whole time, telling him how much I loved him. Cried the whole time too.

Hi all !

If you have noticed, Alabama is in severe drought. The farmers have fields of dust!

I've looked for good, clean, fertilized hay for over a month. My usual suppliers are getting less than half their normal cut - one cut so far ! They all have lists of 15 - 30 !

I've found bales of hay in AR, OK, TX etc, but the freight is about $1.50 to $2.00 a mile - one way.

Today, I called the Alabama Agriculture Drought Committee and left a message with a secretary. People are getting rid of their cattle if they have no other recourse.

There are groups of us going in together. We need burmuda, burmuda/orchard mix (maybe even some fescue in), timothy, timothy mix. We need at least 400 square bales (the normal small rectangle shaped bales). We could also use several round rolls to put in pasture rings.
{ I don't know how to measure the small square bales in tons. }

We're in trouble here, folks!
Can anyone suggest something in AL, TN, GA, KY, MS ?

My cat who is 9 months old has had diarrhea for the past month. The vet thought it was stress from the new puppy, also our puppy was diagnosed with coccidia so our cat was on medicine for both. Neither helped and I am not sure what else it could be, I just recently switched his food (slowly) to see if it would help and it hasn't? I know this can be very serious does anybody have any ideas?

Hello all- I am moving in a few months and am agonizing over whether or not I should take my dog with me. I currently live in a house with a nice backyard and my dog is used to being able to go in and out as much as she wants. When I move I will be living in a one bedroom apartment. I will probably be gone up to 10 hours straight each day. I am just wondering if this will stress my dog out since she is used to being outside. My family has offered to let her live with them until I can either find a house to rent or buy a home. She loves my brother and sister and I know they would take care of her but I'll miss her a lot! Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Okay, I have four new platies and on of them is acting a little strange. Its zooming around the tank and when its not is moving rapidly from side to side. Its eating fine and not bothering the other fish (doesn't seem to be aggressive). It is a little larger than the others so I suspect it is older. The best way to describe it is hyperactive as. It has no spots or other signs of disease and its poo it fine. I suppose if it was human you might think it was having a fit!

The tank is 50 liters and there is plenty of plants and places for them to hide. Ammonia level is 0.25 (slight elevation due to new fish).

PLEASE has anyone see this before? All help is appreciated.
