My cat who is 9 months old has had diarrhea for the past month. The vet thought it was stress from the new puppy, also our puppy was diagnosed with coccidia so our cat was on medicine for both. Neither helped and I am not sure what else it could be, I just recently switched his food (slowly) to see if it would help and it hasn't? I know this can be very serious does anybody have any ideas?

I have a lot of ideas and need a lot of information to make any kind of recommendation.

Diet is the first issue to address. Also knowing what the discharge is like (color, frequency, is it accompanied by a hard stool, etc.) and how is life going with the puppy. Is the kitty still distressed?

Email me if you wish and we can go into it.

You need to go BACK to the vet. Just because they weren't correct the first time, you don't just give up on them!

The vet will need to know the cat still has diarrhoea. If they don't here from you, they will assume the problem has cleared up. If you don't like your current vet, go to another - but go to one. Don't start self-diagnosing or accepting ideas from people on here. Since diarrhoea has a million possible causes, no one on here can possibly tell you what is going on. Keith's answer is an example of this - don't start feeding your cat pumpkin, you don't know what the problem is so you would be wasting time.

Your puppy also needs to go back to the vet if he is still ill! This is just like when you go to the doctors - if you still feel ill, you go back.

Do you give your cat milk? Milk is bad for cats, as well as humans. Each sip contains growth hormones, fat, cholesterol, and allergenic proteins that would cause your cat to have diarrhea.

Perhaps your cat is just sick. Monitor his food and water intake and if he has any normal bowel movements.
Is there blood in the diarrhea? If so, it could be hemorrhoids.

Another possiblity is that your cat may have worms. Worms eat the food that your cat should be eating and as a result, your cat gets stomach problems.

Check with another vet.

Good Luck!

Take your cat to another vet and see what the other vet thinks. Part of the problem is probably having a puppy. do you give your cat a lot of milk? Milk can give cats diarrhea.
hope your cat gets better!

Her health should be well regulated, along with providing warm food every time and lots of water to drink. Dehydration with low potassium ion levels in blood are the most frequently attended situations which lead to a deteriorating kidney. Regular appointments with the vet are a must to ensure that your cat can live many more years.

if the cat has diarrhia and has no other symptoms, but that....then try giving it a teaspoon or so, of pure pumkin you can buy at any food store. for about 3 - 5 days and this should stop the diarrhea, I have had the same thing happen to me with one of my cats I had, and my mother told me to try it and it worked. So give it a try thats all I can say, and you might have to help put in cats mouth they don't really care for it, but I'm really tell you this because it works and it's cheap

Could he/she have gotten into posion of any sort including, antifreeze, plants, or cleaning items? That could be a cause, your best bet would be to take him/her to a vet. If your vet is lost, take him/her to another one. I would do this asap because you are right about this being serious.

Call the vet.

It's likely to be something else and the vet will need to diagnose it.
