He's 13 years old, and this is very sudden. We took him to the vet today, and she told us that we could change his diet so that he would live comfortably for a few more months. We decided to keep him alive for as long as we could as long as he's comfortable. I just don't want him to be in any pain. Did we make the right choice?

I've had MacGyver (male, persian/sphynx) for about a year and 2 months, and he is not much older than that. He is the most well behaved cat I have ever seen or heard of. He pretty muc acts like a dog, ie...comes on command, fetches, etc...

Well here lies the problem. In the past three days he hasn't been using his litter box. He pees and poops on couches and chairs. (pooped on 1 couch and peed on 2 chairs) He doesn't seem sick or anything and he hasn't been through any unusual stress or changes. Is this a common problem and how can it be solved.

Thank you for your help.

I have 2 kittens brother and sister, just over 5 mnths old. The female has just come into heat but the vet says I cant have them neutered until they are 6 mnths old which is 2 wks away. I do I stop them mating without having toshut them up in seperate rooms for 2 wks whihc isn't practical. Do male kittens come into heat later than females or does it vary?

My 12 year old daughter has it in her mind to somehow acquire a pet mink. We have budgeted for her $200 to purchase a pet and $200 for cage, leash toys etc. We are pushing her toward something a little more traditional, like a chinchilla or prairie dog but she is throwing a fit for a mink! I don't even know where to get one.

I have a toy poodle. He LOVES chocolate. He has opened presents with chocolate in them, he can even open hershey kisses without eating the wrapper. I even give him chocolate ice cream but nothing ever happens. Is it just the type of dog or does chocolate actually do nothing to dogs?

my cat pees on anything soft, laundry, sofa, bed, blankets, pillows.
i thought it was because he was marking his territory but he has now been nuetered. he still does this, he peed on the futon today, and last week on the laundry pile.
please tell me there is a way to make him stop.

I have a 3 year old Wirehair. She has been living with us for about a year now, and the thing is shes 55% out door, and 45% indoor cat ( indoor meaning garage). She is very comfortable out side because she KNOWS it's her territory. She knows who’s supposed to be in our garage, and how my car looks like so when I pull up she’s waiting by the door. She was a stray and I love her so much. I can't stand being away from her. But now were moving. And I'm terrified that she might wonder off from our new house. A few days before we moving I'm going to take her on a leash and walk around our new neighborhood, so she might get familiar with it. she’s also getting chipped. But if you have any suggestions on how I could deal with moving a cat from a very comfortable out/indoor environment, to a totally new place I would love to know. Thank you.

I have a ten gallon with females and a thirty gallon with males and fry. A couple of days ago, one of my young females swelled, and her gravid spot swelled with blood. About a day later, she pineconed and got progressively worse. (Dropsy?) I flushed her. Yesterday, I lost a female with a red growth on the very top edge of her gill. I've seen the red growth before, but it hasn't ever killed any of my fish. I looked at the 10 gallon today, and now most of my females have that red, short, fungus-textured growth sticking out of the top edge of their gills. I thought it was some sort of parasite, but I can't seem to find anything about it. One of my females had it a month or so ago, and a salt bath had the growth gone by the next day.

In my 30g, a male swelled and laid close to the gravel. His symptoms matched constipation, but deteriorated fast. Then another male swelled, except he hung towards the bottom. He died too. I now have one male who swelled up, but was instead stuck at the top

I just found a tiny frog outside. I don't live in an area that would have frogs around here. It's too tiny like the size of little marble. I think it may have eaten some ants. Anyways...help! Should I put it back?

I have 4 Zebra Danios, 1 Tiger Barb, and A chinese algae eater. They're in a 10 gallon tank and are fairly small and have not had any problems with them. What would go well with these fish? I'm looking to upgrade to a 20 gallon tank very soon.

I have 2 Gourami and one of them has EATEN the others tailfin! I have just had them for 5 days and whenever i feed them with pellets they dont eat them and they just drop to the bottom. One of them has been really agressive with the other stopping it eating etc. I have removed and disposed of the other fish as it was very surely going to die when i was out today. I have subsequently switched to flakes however there has been no change as yet (this has just happend this morning though)
My water checks (Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite, PH) are all fine.

Is it true that mutts are healthier than purebreds because of a bigger gene pool? I mean, it logical makes sense; they say the same thing about humans. A person who is half white half black is supposed to be healthier because of a bigger gene pool... or so i heard... is it true that mutt dogs are healthier?

My dog is near 12 yrs old, hard of hearing, poor eyesight, terrible arthritis, terrible skin allergies - but we love her and will miss her terribly. She takes pain medication and anti inflamatory and still appears uncomfortable.

First off, I think it's inhumane and potentially dangerous to feed snakes live prey, that's just my opinion and no one is going to change it. That being said, I've found it very difficult to buy adequate sized mice/rats to feed my snakes. It seems the pre-killed frozen mice are either way too small or way too big, so I've been buying live adequate-sized mice and killing them myself. Well, they're starting to eat hopper rats etc, and they're increasingly cute and harder to kill myself. I recently learned about "gassing" rats by putting them in a tupperware container and adding dry ice, but I'm not sure how this works. Would anyone care to explain? Thanks!

So I think that I have a bit too many fish for my ten gallon. Here's the list:
4 Neons
2 Red Skirt Tetras
2 Black Skirt Tetras
2 Zebra Danios
2 Dwarf Gouramis
2 Guppies
1 Leopard Pleco

So yes, its a bit over stocked.....

My question: Is it okay to do a 25% water change w/ gravel vaccum more often than one a month? I thnk this should be okay, and it will keep the ammonia and nitrate levels in check with the ammount of fish. I was thinking maybe twice a month...

We rescued her from the local shelter and brought her home on Saturday (we live together). I should note that I am 28 and he is 24. Now that she is with us, he's decided a puppy is too much responsibility, too much effort to train, and to messy and unpredictable. He feels his freedom is gone since we have this little dog to look after. He teaches high school and will be home for the summer. Now he's saying his summer is ruined because he will have to care for our dog. What should I DO?? This is devastating and I do NOT want to give up our dog. Will he get over this? Is this something one gets "used" to?

My kitty cat Spider is potty trained. However, he pees on our couch, towel on the floor, etc, once in a while...like once a month or even longer than that. We have tried everything from cleaning the box more often, disciplining him when he pees outside the box, etc. Our other cat tigger never had an accident in his life.

They're both neutered, although Spider was already a bit older (9 months) when he had him neutered.

Now, my hubby is threatening to get rid of my cat if he won't stop. I'm so attached to my cats and I'm scared that they'll be given away. I want to know how to stop this. Please help me.

I'm pregnant and for years, been alone at home since I'm a housewife and my cats are the only ones who keep me sane. They keep me company and if they're taken away from me, I'm sure lose my mind.

Please no rude answers. Thanks
